Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders was seen leaving the team’s loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers early. Now, his father and head coach Deion Sanders has shared why that happened.

Sanders explained the Shedeur was going in to get checked out by the team doctors and the timing came down to moving off the field during a TV timeout as a courtesy.

“It was a TV timeout,” Deion Sanders said. “I never and the doctors don’t want to take the guys out into the locker room while the play is going. So, it’s professional that you wait until a TV timeout to take the guys into the locker room to get them checked out.”

Another thing that Deion Sanders wanted to emphasize was that Shedeur wasn’t the only player who was going to get checked out by doctors.

“Some of you guys failed to mention that Chidozie [Nwankwo] was 10 steps in front of Shedeur when they were going in,” Sanders said. “Chidozie was 10 steps in front of Shedeur when they were going in to get checked out by the doctors.”

On the field, it was a long night for both Shedeur Sanders and the Colorado program as a whole. In a 28-10 loss, Shedeur completed 23 of his 38 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown. He also threw an interception that turned into a pick-six. Meanwhile, the Cornhuskers’ pass rush consistently got home and sacked him six times. In total, he was also hurried 10 times and Colorado had just 16 rushing yards.

If Shedeur is dealing with an injury, it’s going to be a little bit before Colorado has a bye week. Next up is a road trip to rival Colorado State. After that, the Buffaloes have Big 12 games against Baylor and UCF before getting a bye on October 5th.

Shedeur Sanders addresses his pick-six vs. Nebraska

Following the loss to Nebraska, Shedeur Sanders broke down what happened on his uncharacteristic pick-six.

“It was just a rookie mistake, honestly,” Sanders said. “That’s what it was. So, it’s small things like that that kind of like things that just can’t happen truthfully, but that stuff happened. So, we’ve just got to bounce back from it and learn from that situation and just be ready for it.”

The interception was Sanders’ second of the season after only throwing three in all of 2023.
