Memphis rapper Young Dolph – whose real name is Adolph Robert Thornton Jr. – was shot and killed at a bakery in his hometown Wednesday, according to local law enforcement. Following Young Dolph’s death, close friend Deion Sanders penned an emotional prayer.

“Lord help us as a people stop the hate, the violence and the hopelessness,” wrote Sanders. “When we realize we matter others will as well. Lord help us right now.”

He continued: “Lord please cover the entire (Thornton) family, friends and loved ones. We thank you in advance Lord in Jesus name Amen.”

Deion Sanders and Young Dolph became close over the years. Most recently, the rapper attended Jackson State’s homecoming game in October, celebrating the win afterward with his song “100 shots” playing in the background.

At the time, Deion Sanders sent a thank you message to Young Dolph, via his social media account.

“I appreciate you Young Dolph for blessing us my brother after our homecoming win,” Sanders posted. “Our young men love ya my man.”

 More about Young Dolph

At 36-years old, Young Dolph had established himself as one of Memphis’ top rappers. His work often reached the Billboard 200 and drew features from Snoop Dogg, Gucci Mane and Megan Thee Stallion, among others.

Young Dolph was a staple in the Memphis community, often performing at local sporting events or promoting local business, like the bakery where he was killed. Earlier this week, the rapper joined Key Glock at the West Cancer Center to give away 200 Thanksgiving turkeys to families in need. Last year, he also donated $25,000 in school supplies and sports equipment to Hamilton High School in Memphis.

Over his rap career, he produced hit songs “Cut It,” “Get Paid,” and “Major”. One of his closest associated acts, Key Glock, was also Young Dolph’s cousin. Deceased rapper Juice Wrld was another cousin of Young Dolph. He is survived by his two children, Tre Tre Thornton and Aria Ella Thornton.
