Miami four-star quarterback commit Dereon Coleman had a standout performance at Saturday’s Elite 11 regional in Tampa, and the Lakeland (Fla.) Jones standout is now headed to the Finals later this summer in Los Angeles.

He is the fourth passer to earn an invite to the prestigious camp, joining Texas five-star commit Dia Bell, Houston five-star signal-caller Keisean Henderson, and Tennessee five-star pledge Faizon Brandon, who were invited after standout performances at the Austin and Atlanta regionals, respectively.

There are few higher honors for prep quarterbacks than being invited to the event, which will celebrate its 26th year in 2025. It bring together 20 of the country’s elite signal-callers for three days of competition and training in Los Angeles during the month of June.

Elite 11 alumni include Carson PalmerAndrew LuckMatthew StaffordTim Tebow, and more recently Trevor LawrenceC.J. StroudBryce Young and more. Last year’s Elite 11 Finals featured more than a dozen of the top 20 quarterbacks in the final On3 Industry Rankings, including five of the top six players at the position.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder is coming off a huge junior campaign where he completed 203 of 279 passes (73%), while throwing for 3,412 yards, 28 touchdowns and just four interceptions. In addition, he totaled 455 yards and four touchdowns on just 74 carries.

Coleman rising up recruiting rankings

After his standout campaign in 2024, as well as some strong performances on the camp circuit early in 2025, Coleman has been moving up the recruiting rankings.

In the most recent On300 rankings, he was tabbed as the nation’s No. 172 overall recruit and No. 12 passer. Last month, On3 National Scout Cody Bellaire broke down what stands out about him on the field.

“It’s the arm talent. No question,” Bellaire told CaneSport. “He rips the hell out of the football and has a truly gifted arm. His natural whip and ability to release the ball so quickly and get so much velocity on the football is eye-popping, especially for his leaner stature. It’s rare to see someone with his build get that many RPM’s on the football even without using his lower half. Plus the athleticism and ability to escape pressure while maintaining accuracy and ball placement on the move is impressive.”
