Derrick Henry reveals Alabama players were fighting each other ahead of national championship game
One of Nick Saban‘s most famous national championships came in 2015, taking down Clemson. Alabama had produced a Heisman Trophy winner along the way with Derrick Henry, rushing for 2,219 yards and 28 touchdowns in just 15 games. Countless NFL players were on the Crimson Tide roster as well.
And apparently, a few guys got into a fight ahead of the national championship game. Henry recently revealed there was a scrap between players on the bus taking Alabama to State Farm Stadium in Arizona. Just a couple hours later, they were lined up against Clemson.
“We had a fight on the bus before the national championship game,” Henry said. “All suited… In suits and everything, they were throwing haymakers. Boom. We went out there and won a national championship. That’s just how Bama was.”
This might sound like a concern for a lot of people. But Henry says this was nothing out of the ordinary for Alabama. Fights would occur in the locker room as players would stay for an extended period of time following practice. Henry added plenty of people were thrown in the cold tub too, reflecting of the “good times.”

“We had boxing,” Henry said. “Everybody would be in a circle boxing. Throwing people in the cold tub, all that. I mean, it was crazy. Good times.”
Henry did not specify if he was a part of the fights but either way, he was not affected. On 36 rush attempts, the running back ran for 158 yards and three touchdowns. He accounted for all but one of Alabama’s rushing yards on the night against a Clemson defense that gave up an average of just 125 yards per game.
Of course, Alabama emerged as the victor too. The most famous play from the game is Saban calling for the onside kick with the game tied at 24 in the fourth quarter.
