Five-Star Plus+ SF Derrion Reid sets new commitment date
Derrion Reid, a Five-Star Plus+ recruit in the 2024 class, has set a new college commitment date. The 6-foot-7 small forward of Prolific Prep (Calif.) will announce his decision on Friday, December 22nd.
Reid is set to choose between three programs — Alabama, Georgia, and Florida State.
The Augusta, Georgia native was originally set to commit on October 28th before postponing. Georgia was the rumored favorite heading into that announcement, but over the last couple of weeks, Alabama has started to gain traction.
A lot can change in this day and age with college recruitments, but sources have suggested that the Crimson Tide are in a good spot as of this writing. With that being said, I’ve made a prediction that Reid lands in Tuscaloosa.
According to the On3 Industry Rankings, Reid is the No. 12 overall prospect in the 2024 cycle. He’s also the No. 4 small forward prospect. The On3 Industry Ranking is a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
Reid talks finalists
In a previous interview with On3, Reid briefly broke down each of his remaining suitors.
Alabama: “(Alabama) has been here since the beginning and I love the way they play and what’s he’s done with his players.”

Georgia: “(They’ve) been there from the beginning. I have built a great relationship with their coaching staff and head coach and I like the way he coaches.”
Florida State: “I have a great connection with the entire coaching staff and I love the way they play and their play style.”
Scouting Report
“Derrion Reid has a great frame with good length. He is a good athlete that runs the floor extremely well, with a purpose. You like the upside he shows on the defensive end of the floor. He has the ability to slide his feet on the ball, and he has good anticipation in the passing lanes. He also has shown good court vision in the half-court. Standing in the 6-7 range, his ability to find the open man in the half-court or full-court setting can be a weapon. He has a great frame with good length. Reid has spent time re-tooling the jump shot; he shot 37.8% from three on the EYBL Circuit. He is a good rebounder and can knock down a mid-range pull-up. Reid is aggressive in transition and finishes with explosion at the rim. He has good timing on the defensive end, both in the passing lanes and as a help-side shot blocker. There are a lot of natural tools in play for Reid.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
