Deshaun Watson didn’t play a single down in 2021 and now a year later, this offseason feels almost identical to the last, except a few significant changes.

One of the biggest came on Wednesday when Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier bluntly shut down any chance the organization — once rumored as a top destination to land the Texans’ dual-threat passer — has any plan on signing Watson moving forward.

While it was safe to assume new Dolphins’ coach Mike McDaniel had lengthy discussions about his vision for the team’s future QB, this is yet another reminder of how quickly things change in the NFL.

In October, roughly five months ago while the season was in full swing, credible reports from a FOX NFL Insider surfaced stating the Dolphins were engaged in legitimate talks with Houston to acquire Deshaun Watson.

“[The Texans] are still very heavily engaged with trade talks with the Miami Dolphins,” Fox NFL insider Jay Glazer said. “What I’m told this week is that another team called up, just to inquire, and the message that the Texans are giving off, ‘You’ve gotta beat Miami’s offer.’ So it looks like it’s all heading toward that way.”

When he last played, Watson led the NFL with 4,823 passing yards, throwing 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions last season. He also rushed for 444 yards and three touchdowns.

While it’s unclear if the NFL is going to take action against the 22 women suing Deshaun Watson for sexual assault allegations, the former Clemson star hasn’t been charged by authorities or restricted from playing so far.
