Desmond Howard: Shedeur Sanders is 'one of the greatest players right now in college football'
The Colorado Buffaloes won in dramatic fashion last weekend, pushing their record to 3-1 on the season and securing their first Big 12 win as new members of the conference after a 38-31 overtime win over Baylor. Where overtime was forced thanks to a 43-yard Hail Mary pass from Shedeur Sanders to LaJohntay Wester as time expired in regulation.
It’s still early in the season, but once again Sanders is looking like one of the best quarterbacks in the nation. And according to college football analyst Desmond Howard, the Buffaloes as a whole are also looking better than some may have anticipated entering the season.

“I’ll tell you what, earlier in the season, obviously with that road trip against Nebraska, they didn’t look good,” Howard admitted. “And I think a lot of people just kind of wrote them off, like, ‘Colorado’s going to be terrible.’ But I think they found something after that when they went to Colorado State, played their in-state rival, and handled them convincingly.”
“Then a week ago, the game against Baylor, the team was resilient. Just kept fighting, kept fighting”

The Buffaloes have had some ups and downs to start the 2024 college football season, but have recently been trending toward the right direction. Headlined by the play of their quarterback, who currently ranks fourth in the country with 1,340 passing yards along with 11 touchdowns through four games this season.

“They have tremendous leadership,” Howard added. “I think Shedeur Sanders is one of the greatest players right now in college football, not just quarterbacks, just players. Because of his leadership style, the way he approaches the game, extremely poised.”
Sanders has continued to be productive despite once again being one of the most pressured quarterbacks in college football. Already sacked 15 times this season and eight times against Baylor alone on Saturday, but still managing to lead the Buffaloes to a thrilling win.
“I think they found something in that Colorado State game that they can ride and I love what I’m seeing right now coming out of Boulder,” Howard concluded.
Colorado and their star quarterback will be tested on the road this weekend, taking a visit to The Bounce House to face UCF at 3:30 p.m. ET in a matchup airing on FOX and streaming on Fubo.
