Quarterback recruiting in the 2025 cycle was an adventure for Auburn, but it paid off big time for Hugh Freeze and the Tigers in the end.

After taking myriad visits to The Plains during the fall, Lucedale (Miss.) George County QB Deuce Knight finally flipped from Notre Dame at the beginning of October. Headlining an impressive haul, Knight was named a five-star prospect in the final 2025 On300 recruiting rankings on Thursday.

The 6-foot-4.5, 208-pounder was ranked as the No. 26 overall prospect and No. 6 QB in the cycle, cementing his status as one of the nation’s top signal-callers as he heads into the SEC.

As a senior, Knight threw for over 2,200 yards and 25 touchdowns to just five interceptions. While he wasn’t fully healthy for the entire season, the left-hander still looked the part in Mississippi. Back in the summer, he earned On3 MVP honors at the prestigious Elite 11 event in Los Angeles.

“Knight gets the nod in a very tight four man race for the On3 MVP after turning in a consistent three days of performances with the most legitimate ‘wow’ moments of any Elite 11 finalist. He showcased his physical upside and high-end arm talent on Day 1 and was the On3 MVP on Day 2 with the best pro day of the group,” On3’s Charles Power wrote of Knight.

“There were several eye-raising moments from his workout on Day 2 that were among the top highlights from the week. Knight backed that up with a good showing during Thursday’s 7-on-7 portion. His arm talent was among the best on hand and he was able to operate well within the structure of this camp setting. We were also impressed with Knight’s movement skills over the course of the week. The speed and depth of his drops were among the best on hand.”

Knight headlines Auburn’s top-10 recruiting class

The addition of Knight helped cap off what was an impressive stretch of recruiting wins for Freeze and Co. All but one of the 15 highest-ranked signees in the class committed some time between June and October.

Playing alongside a young and impressive cast of wide receivers in Freeze’s offense was something that made Auburn stand out to Knight as he mulled his college decision:

“The young weapons like Cam ColemanMalcolm Simmons, didn’t get to see a lot of Perry Thompson, but you know he’s got it. The defense kept us in a lot of those games that we lost, so seeing all that and seeing everybody, being around all the guys, they actually believe that we can turn it around,” Knight said about what interest him being at AU this fall. “I know what I’m coming to do and I know what I want to come do, as long as they believe and they’re on it, we’re gonna do it.”

Knight is one of five top-100 prospects in Auburn’s 2025 class, which ranks No. 8 in the nation, according to the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
