Devin Royal sets final two visits; Goes in-depth on all five officials
Devin Royal ended EYBL Louisville with a 29-point outburst going 12 of 16 from the field. The 6-foot-6 forward was On3’s Most Outstanding Player of the session after averaging 23.4 points through the five games.
“I’m a three-way scorer, very versatile,” Royal told On3. “I can do whatever they ask me to do. I watch a lot of Jayson Tatum, how he comes off ball screens, and develop my handles like him.”
On3’s No. 54 player in 2023 helped lead his Pickerington (OH) Central High to a state championship this season. On3 caught up with Devin Royal this weekend to talk about his official visits and the state of his recruitment.
“I have taken three official visits already,” Royal said. “Penn State, Marquette, Iowa State, and I have visits set with Ohio State and Michigan State for June. That will be my five junior year visits. Once school gets back in, I will see where I’m at for my next five.”
Royal talks recruitment
Penn State: “Their culture is great. I learned a lot about their coaches on that visit. (Micah) Shrewsberry came from the NBA and stuff like that. It’s a great program. I went to a football game there. The atmosphere was crazy; all the fans came together. It was a stripe out. The campus is always nice there.”
Marquette: “I have a great relationship with their staff. I like how they run things; Shaka (Smart) is a great coach. They like I can do whatever they need me to do, run the floor, score, things like that.”
Iowa State: “They had a really good season last year, and they are a good program. But when Coach (Daniyal) Robinson left (*editor’s note – Coach Robinson was named the head coach at Cleveland State)
Ohio State: “Their program is really nice, and I like the coaches; we have a good relationship. They want me to be a wing player, be like an EJ Liddell. Make an impact like he did.”
Michigan State: “I’m visiting them on Father’s Day weekend (June 19). They came in late, but they came strong. I like what the coaches are saying. They like that I can do a lot of things on the court; they talk about how my versatility fits in with what they do.”
“Clemson, I think, is the only one who has not offered yet but maybe close,” Royal said.
Royal’s take
“My recruitment is kind of already narrowed down,” Royal said. “But I’m going to officially narrow things down after Peach Jam. I want to commit before my senior season.

“Relationships are going to be big for me. I want the school to have a nice campus and feel like home. I want it to get there, and it feels like home with the coaches and the players. Player development will be big for me too, and I want to go to a winning program.”
On3’s take
Devin Royal has long arms and a strong frame. The 6-foot-6 forward is an advanced scorer with a great feel. He has touch and range off the catch from three. Royal moves well off the ball, finds the open space in the defense, has great balance, and is squared up at the basket. The foot speed may be a question and would like to see him rebound at a higher rate. He is a tweener forward, but his offensive feel would allow him to play either way. He is a bonafide top 100 talent.
While On3 is already above the industry standard with Royal, expect a future bump during our next update.
Evans’ On3 NIL Valuation
2023 four-star Devin Royal’s current On3 NIL Valuation is $13,300. This valuation ranks Royal 80th in high school basketball, with a projection of $178 per post across all social media.
The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets the standard market NIL value for high school and college-level athletes. A proprietary algorithm, the On3 NIL Valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a specific moment in time.
The On3 NIL Valuation is comprised of many dynamic data points that focus on three primary categories: social media, athletic performance, and endorsements and collectives.
