Did Lane Kiffin take another shot at Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M?
Lane Kiffin has made his thoughts on Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M abundantly clear. He’s done so to a fault, admitting this week the Ole Miss SID has told him to “let it go,” but he still speaks his mind.
He appeared to do so again Friday night on Twitter.
Saturday Down South asked what Kiffin would do if he wasn’t a football coach. The tweet featured four cartoons of Kiffin — one as a firefighter, one as a doctor, one as a paramedic and one as a clown. It made its way across his timeline, and he retweeted it saying one picture wouldn’t be him.
He then added a thumbs up emoji at the end of the tweet, not-so-subtly hinting he meant Fisher.
“Bottom right (clown emoji) isn’t me but it might be someone else I know…..” Kiffin tweeted, along with a thinking emoji and the thumbs up.
The tweet comes just a few days after Kiffin shared his thoughts on comments made by Fisher about the role of NIL in recruiting the 2022 class, which ranked No. 1 in the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Ranking. Fisher has said NIL had nothing to do with that recruiting success, but Kiffin didn’t sound convinced.

“I struggle letting it go on those things. My SID tells me to let it go, but when someone says that NIL has nothing to do with why someone signs at their place and they signed the best class in the history of recruiting, I struggle with that statement,” Kiffin said.
This week’s SEC meetings also came more than a year after another SEC coach took a shot at Fisher and Texas A&M. Nick Saban did so at an event last May, saying the Aggies “bought every player on their team.” It led to many question about the dynamics in Destin as the coaches, athletic directors and presidents prepared to make their way to Florida for the spring meetings.
Remember, Fisher had some poignant comments about Saban at the time.
This time around, though, Kiffin said all is well.
“I think that room is different than I think you guys picture it as being, even last year with the Jimbo-Nick stuff,” Kiffin said. “It’s not like that in there. I think that we have jobs and part of it is whatever we do in front of the camera or out there on the field, that’s just part of the job. It’s much different in there, for the most part, with coaches. Over the years, I’ve seen coaches have spats and things like that, usually pretty good there.”
