Florida quarterback DJ Lagway is expected to be a game-time decision at Texas on Saturday, multiple sources tell On3. The true freshman injured his hamstring last Saturday against Georgia and was carted off the field in the second quarter.
Lagway was diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring strain, dealing with a soft tissue injury. He’s progressed throughout the week. A Willis, Texas, native, playing against the Longhorns is important to the former Five-Star Plus quarterback. He has been listed as questionable on the SEC injury report this week.
The No. 1 quarterback recruit in the 2024 class has stepped up this season with starting quarterback Graham Mertz sidelined for the remainder of the year. DJ Lagway has thrown for 1,071 yards with six touchdowns and five interceptions in eight games.
If Lagway can’t go on Saturday, third-string quarterback Aidan Warner will get the start. He was 7 of 22 against Georgia last week, throwing for 66 yards and an interception.
“The good news is we have positive information on that front,” Florida head coach Billy Napier said earlier this week. “We do think that the injury is less significant. We do think there’s a pathway for recovery and a return.

“He’s been doing well so far this morning, so we have not completely ruled him out, and I think a lot of that will be to be determined as we move our way throughout the week… I think that he, in particular, is a great competitor, and he wants to be loyal to his teammates and be available to do his part for the team.”
Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin announced Thursday that Napier would be returning to Gainesville for the 2025 season. Napier is 15-18 at Florida, sitting at 4-4 toward the end of his third season. He has been firmly on the hot seat since beginning the season 1-2, with lopsided losses to Miami and Texas A&M.
Florida plays at No. 5 Texas (7-1) on Saturday, with kickoff slated for Noon ET on ABC. The Longhorns are 21.5-point favorites, according to FanDuel.
