As NFL franchises gear up for the start of next season and head to training camp, the Seattle Seahawks were greeted with good news on Tuesday. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Seattle star receiver DK Metcalf has reported to training camp.

“DK Metcalf has reported to Seahawks training camp, sources tells Brady Henderson and me. Metcalf, who skipped minicamp in June, is up for a new contract. It’s unclear whether Metcalf will practice with the team, but his appearance at camp can be considered a positive,” wrote Fowler via Twitter.

After the surprise trade of All-Pro veteran quarterback, Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos this offseason, many around the league speculated that the former Ole Miss star was also on his way out the door. And rumors ran ramped after Metcalf skipped the teams’ minicamp in June. However, no deal was struck for Metcalf, and he shared he has no desire to move on from the Seahawks.

As the two sides work out an agreement on what Metcalf’s future holds in Seattle, his presence at training camp signals that there is still at least a working relationship between them. And whether the team decides to move on from him, or give him a lucrative contract extension, such as the one’s A.J. Brown and Marquis Brown received, having DK Metcalf at training camp helps to cultivate a positive environment within the team.

Seattle will reportedly release Carson with a failed physical designation. That will qualify the running back to receive several million dollars in injury protection benefits, which would not be the case if he went on the retired list.

A seventh round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Carson would go on to carve out a starting role for himself as a rookie, but had his season cut short due to an ankle injury. He returned to form the following year to rush for 1,151 yards and nine touchdowns as one of the more productive running backs in the league. He picked up where he left off the next year in 2019, rushing for a career-high 1,230 yards and seven scores.

Still, injuries would continue to plague Carson over the next couple of seasons. He missed some time due to a foot injury in 2020 and then suffered the neck injury he is currently dealing with in Week 4 this past season. Carson originally said he would continue to fight his way back from the injury and be ready for 2022, but has still yet to be cleared.
