4-star CB Dorian Barney takes spring visit to Miami

Miami has the attention of Carrollton (Ga.) four-star cornerback Dorian Barney, a former Alabama commit who’s once again working through his recruitment.
As the Hurricanes kicked off spring practice, Barney was one of the top blue-chip prospects in attendance to see the ACC program. He caught up with head coach Mario Cristobal on Tuesday.
“What excites me is seeing what the new staff is going to do this upcoming season,” Barney told On3’s Steve Wiltfong ahead of the visit. “And seeing practice!”
Barney cut his list back down to 12 schools this year and continues to consider many of the top programs in the Southeast. Miami was among the programs that he was yet to visit until this week. Colorado, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Michigan, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State and Texas A&M also made the cut for the 6-foot-0.5, 170-pounder.
New Miami defensive backs coach Zac Etheridge is a big reason why the Canes have piqued Barney’s interest.
“I would say Miami made that list because of the relationship I have with coach Etheridge, who just got there,” Barney told CaneSport. “I’ve been talking to him for a while. The vibe that we’ve got with each other is great.”

Barney is the No. 114 overall prospect and No. 14 corner in the 2026 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 13 player in Georgia.
Upon trimming his list last month, Barney spoke with On3’s Chad Simmons about some of the biggest factors in his upcoming decision:
“I have to trust the coach and the coach has to trust me. He has a job to do. He has to make his money, so I want him to trust me to believe in me so he will put me in the game. I want to trust him to develop me, put me in a good position to succeed and to prepare me to play on Sundays,” Barney said. “The culture it big too. How it feels around campus and it being a place I would want to come back to means something to me too.”
Miami currently has four commits in its 2026 recruiting class: Miami Gardens (Fla.) Carol City four-star linebacker Jordan Campbell, Lakeland (Fla.) Jones four-star quarterback Dereon Coleman, Mineral City (Ohio) Tuscarawas Valley four-star offensive tackle Ben Congdon and Charlotte Myers Park four-star cornerback Camdin Portis.
