Drake forward Cam Manyawu has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3 has learned. He spent just one season with the Bulldogs and will be entering the transfer portal for the second time.

Manyawu originally enrolled at Wyoming, where he played for one season before transferring to Drake. He has had remarkably similar production at both stops.

During the 2024-25 season with Drake, Cam Manyawu averaged 7.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. He also chipped in 0.9 assists and 0.7 blocks per contest.

Manyawu played in 35 games, starting all 35 of them for Drake. He’ll likely be a candidate to join new coach Ben McCollum at Iowa, where McCollum recently took the head coaching job after his stint at Drake.

McCollum has already lured Cam Manyawu once, getting him out of the transfer portal following his freshman season at Wyoming. Manyawu had a sizeable impact for the Cowboys.

He played in 32 games as a freshman in 2023-24, starting in 10 of them. During that time he averaged 7.5 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game.

Prior to enrolling at Wyoming, Cam Manyawu was an unranked recruit in the On3 Industry Rankings. He received only one grade from a major recruiting service out of high school, earning three-star status and an 86 grade from 247Sports.

Iowa hires Drake coach Ben McCollum

The Iowa Hawkeyes have found their next men’s basketball coach. Ben McCollum, who was previously the head coach of the Drake Bulldogs, has agreed to a deal to lead the Hawkeyes program moving forward, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.

McCollum will replace Fran McCaffery, who had been at Iowa since 2010. During that time, the Hawkeyes were able to get to the NCAA Tournament seven times. That included three times in the past four seasons, though they never made it past the Round of 32. The decision to move on from McCaffery also came following a season where the program finished tied for 12th in the Big Ten standings and had a 17-16 overall record.

For his part, Ben McCollum has been seen as a rising name in the college coaching ranks. From 2009-2024, he led Northwest Missouri State, a Division II program.

While there, he had a 395-91 record, which is a .813 winning percentage to go along with four national championships. Those came in a six-season stretch that included a pandemic-impacted season in which his team was a favorite once again. Prior to that, McCollum was an assistant coach at Emporia State and Northwest Missouri State.
