4-star F Drew McKenna dives into his recruitment
Drew McKenna is the No. 78 player in the 2024 On3 Consensus. The 6-foot-8 forward is a late-blooming junior at Elliot City (MD) Glenleg Country whose skill and size have caught the eye of coaches across the country.
“I’m a versatile and positionless scorer with good court vision and passing instincts,” McKenna told On3. “I watch a lot of I watch Paul George and Luka Doncic. I’ll look at their pace and how they score but also get their teammates involved at the same time.”
On3 caught up with Drew McKenna recently to talk about his recruiting and get an update on visits.
McKenna talks visits
“I’ve been on four unofficials to Butler, Virginia Tech, Maryland, and Georgetown,” McKenna said. “I have not started setting any officials yet. As of right now, I’m not talking to any other schools about visits yet.”
Butler: “The most memorable part of the visit was seeing Greg Oden and talking to him for a while. It was a big shock that I was there just casually speaking to him. Coach Thad Matta calls me often and tells me that I fit his style of player. He likes big scoring guards and wings, so I would say I have a pretty good relationship with him.”
Virginia Tech: “I liked the fact that they are in the ACC and how close the chemistry is on the team. They like that I am a good shooter, and their offense requires that, so that’s how I think it fits my game.”

Georgetown: “What I liked about Georgetown is their community and family. The coaches are very close, and they worked together very well and shared one common goal of getting better. They treated me like family as soon as I arrived.”
Maryland: “I liked their coaches are focused on rebuilding. I like how hard they play, and I think it’s cool that they’re focused on recruiting the DMV, and a lot of kids are staying here.”
In McKenna’s words
“I’m a position-less player and can play anywhere,” McKenna said. “I want to go to a place where I can develop and become a better player and reach my potential. I’m going to pay attention to what school or schools continuously reach out and show interest in me.”
