Durham is home to the ACC Softball Tournament this season, being an exciting event over the last few days. Duke and Florida State are currently battling it out in the championship game, hoping to add a championship to what’s already been an impressive season for both programs.

An entertaining game has taken place too, being tied in the sixth inning at three. Duke was threatening with the bases loaded but gave Florida State the opportunity to get out of the frame with a ground ball to second base.

Instead of attempting to turn a double play with one out, Florida State second basemen Devyn Flaherty went for the force out at home plate. Catcher Michaela Edenfield could not handle the throw and saw the ball bounce back away from her.

Duke crossed the plate and took the lead and while there is an opportunity to add to the lead, they are now just three outs away from winning the ACC Softball Tournament.

You can check out the full moment here, one Duke fans will certainly enjoy.

The threat from Duke is far from over, still having the bases loaded. Adding a few more runs would certainly calm the nerves down heading into the seventh inning. If they can hold on to win, the trophy will not have to travel back very far to campus.

More on Duke Softball, performance in ACC Softball Tournament

Duke last won the ACC Softball Tournament in 2021, looking to clinch the program’s second-ever title. And for a team that has only been around for seven seasons, the Blue Devils have become one of the conference’s best.

The two best teams during the regular season were Duke and Florida State. It’s no surprise those two are battling in the championship game in Durham and thus far, the game has lived up to the billing.

Being single elimination, all it takes is one upset to cause chaos. Florida State has avoided drama during their time in Durham, winning 2-0 in the quarterfinals and 10-2 in the semifinals.

Duke has played a couple of close contests, though. Extra innings have been required to advance to the championships, winning in 10 innings on both occasions. Not as routine as what the Seminoles did on the other side of the bracket.

Maybe the same will be true of the championship game but Florida State will have to make a comeback.
