Duke transfer QB Maalik Murphy visiting Oregon State
Duke transfer quarterback Maalik Murphy is taking a visit to Oregon State on Wednesday, according to a report from BeaverBlitz. He has previously visited Kentucky and Auburn.
Murphy spent the first three seasons of his collegiate career at Texas. Following two seasons as a backup with seven appearances, including a pair of starts, for the Longhorns, Murphy transferred to the Blue Devils where he was their starter this fall.
His decision to transfer to Durham payed out for the former Longhorns backup as Murphy turned a record-breaking year at quarterback in Durham.
He completed 254-421 (60.3%) of his passes for 2,933 yards. That was a single-season best for the program with 26 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He helped lead Duke to a record of 9-3 overall — one of their better finishes in school history.
On his career he was thrown for nealy 3,500 yards and and is one shy of 30 touchdown passes in two seasons of production, and just one as a full-time starter.

Before college, Murphy was a highly-touted four-star recrcuit, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 205 player in his class and No. 12 QB overall.
If the Beavers can land Murphy’s services, it would go a long way in strengthening their offseason ahead of a pivotal 2025 season for Oregon State.
The portal officially opens on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers.
That means roughly 25 percent of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year, per On3’s Pete Nakos.
