Duke trolls North Carolina following win, pretends to report them for fraud
The Duke-North Carolina rivalry is one of the most heated in all of college sports, whether it’s on the hardwood or the gridiron. The two rivals got to settle the score again on Saturday, as the Tar Heels jumped out to a 20-0 lead on Duke in the third quarter. Then, the Blue Devils stormed back, rattling off 21 unanswered points for a classic 21-20 victory. The ending will only add yet another chapter to the rivalry.
And on Saturday night, it shouldn’t be any surprise that the Duke football social media team trolled the Tar Heels on Twitter. They clicked the Report Account button. And then typed in that UNC were fraudulently trying to be a good football team.
Duke got a decent performance from quarterback Maalik Murphy. He completed 15 of 34 passes for 209 yards, while tossing in one touchdown with no interceptions. Blue Devils running back Star Thomas was the real hero, with 30 carries for 166 yards and a touchdown.
He’s on pace for some career-high numbers in 2024. It was the third game in a row that he surpassed the 100-yard rushing mark. With 480 rushing yards already this year, he’s already getting close to his 653-yard total from last year with the New Mexico State Aggies.

Duke snapped a six-game losing streak against the Tar Heels, beating their North Carolina rivals for the first time since 2018. Tre Freeman had an interception with 25 seconds left that clinched the outcome. Shortly afterward, Duke fans rushed onto the field to celebrate and reclaim the Victory Bell, the rivalry trophy awarded to the winner.
It was a massive, massive win for Blue Devils head coach Manny Diaz. The 20-point comeback victory marked the second-largest in Duke football history. Mack Brown had guided the Tar Heels to 13 straight wins over the Blue Devils during his time as head coach there. His last loss in the series came in 1989.
