Jackson State had a special visitor on its campus on Saturday. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson showed up as the Tigers hosted the HBCU Showcase portion of the XFL showcase series.

Johnson walked up to Sanders, who promptly took a knee and bowed in The Rock’s honor. Jackson State is the second college to host an XFL showcase event after Maryland hosted the Washington, D.C. showcase last month.

Johnson is one of the founders of the new-look XFL, which is preparing to launch in 2023. The showcase series gives players a chance to show off their skills in front of XFL personnel to try and play in the league. IMG Academy in Florida hosted a showcase in June and Arizona State is the next one up July 22 in Tempe.

Deion Sanders gives ominous warning on impact of conference realignment

Prior to the XFL showcase series, Deion Sanders addressed the ongoing situation with conference realignment. The latest dominoes fell a few weeks ago when USC and UCLA announced their departures from the Pac-12 for the Big Ten, and the question is now becoming which school — or schools — will be next.

Sanders discussed the issue with Jay Harris on SportsCenter. He said Jackson State and other HBCUs are already talking about it and considering the financial significance.

“It has a tremendous effect,” Sanders said. “Sooner or later, some of the prominent schools are going to have to make a decision. What do we want to do? Do we want to sit back and adhere to tradition? Or do we want to put ourselves in a financial situation that our school prospers

“You’ve really got to factor that in and weigh those options. There are some tremendous options that some of the schools are going to be faced with. We’re already speaking about it.”
