Dylan Edwards scored against Tulane on Saturday in style when the Kansas State running back imitated Deion Sanders.

Ironically, Edwards started for Sanders just last season at Colorado before electing to hit the transfer portal. The Derby, Kansas native came back closer to home and hit the Sanders high step on the way to the end zone.

The Sanders high step was a nice touch as Edwards tied the game at 27 a piece early in the fourth quarter.

Edwards ran five times for 43 yards and a touchdown last week in his Kansas State debut.

Back in the summer, Edwards’ departure was discussed in the Colorado building, including by quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

“Nah, I never would knock a player for transferring if he feels like that’s best for him,” Sanders said at Big 12 Media Days, according to ESPN Wichita. “That’s my guy at the end of the day, regardless of anything. So if that was the best decision for him, that’s great for him.”

Edwards got off to a flying start for Colorado in 2023 as a true freshman, putting on a show with a four-touchdown performance in an upset of a ranked TCU squad in the season opener.

He showed remarkable ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, making him an every down threat. But his usage tailed off as the season went on.

Dylan Edwards ended up entering the transfer portal following the season.

“I wasn’t surprised. I talked to him just in general,” Sanders said. “I kind of understood where his mind was at and I understand. The thing with me, I’m never a biased guy. If you feel like something is better for you then I’m a friend at the end of the day. I won’t lie to you, I won’t do anything to use you for my own selfish reasons at the end of the day.

“You’ve got to live your life for the next however many years you live. I’m not living nobody else’s life. So if that’s for them, that’s on them. I’m not really too… trying to control nobody else’s life.”

Wildcats head coach Chris Klieman is envisioned the multitude of ways that Edwards can be put to work wearing the purple and white.

“We brought in Dylan Edwards from Colorado, that’s probably the home run threat we were missing,” Klieman said. “Whether it’s in the backfield, out of the backfield, in the return game. I’m excited for Dylan because he gets to come back home. K-State is home for him.”
