Following a tight 21-17 defeat at the hands of Ohio State, Nebraska quarterback Dylan Raiola opened up on an environment that he deemed disrespectful.

Suffice it to say the freshman quarterback was less than thrilled when fans at The Horseshoe began to chuck bottles toward the field.

“The bottles being thrown is just, I don’t know, it kind of feels like it disrespects football and the nature of it,” Dylan Raiola said after the game. “It happened and we had to get away from it, but nah, it was loud. It was a cool environment. But we knew that coming in.”

Nebraska fought valiantly, putting itself in position to win the game. The Cornhuskers simply couldn’t execute in crunch time, with a late Raiola interception sealing the deal.

He was limited to just 152 yards passing on 21-of-32 throwing against the Buckeyes.

The defense did its part to keep Nebraska in contention, but eventually Ohio State managed to retake the lead in the second half. For his part, Dylan Raiola is treating the game as another moment in time to learn from.

“Yeah it’s definitely a learning point, but we’ll be excited to go watch the tape and get better,” Raiola said.

So why were fans throwing bottles onto the field?

A controversial targeting call against Buckeyes linebacker Arvell Reese drew the ire of the fans, with a hit on Cornhuskers receiver Jahmal Banks bringing out the flag.

Ohio State was holding onto a four-point lead at the time, with Nebraksa backed up deep into its own territory.

Coach Ryan Day was livid on the sideline and received a warning from the officials. Fans followed in his footsteps and began throwing bottles and various debris onto the field.

As for Day, Fox Sports rules analyst Mike Pereira explained why he was fortunate to not get a 15-yard penalty: “Ryan Day is lucky that he doesn’t have a 15-yard penalty associated with this, because a sideline warning is when people interfere with you — players or coaches interfere with you in the white,” Pereira said. “But if you come out on the field, if you come out on the field and voice your displeasure like he did and throw your headset, that should be an unsportsmanlike conduct, which would add another 15.

“He catches a break here. You can’t be out on the field and do this. This has happened before.”

The day ended with Dylan Raiola’s late pick, for all intents and purposes.
