QB Dylan Raiola

Dominic Raiola played at Nebraska from 1998-2000. During his time with the Cornhuskers, he helped the team defeat Colorado three straight times. Each game was a barn burner, with Nebraska never winning by more than three points.

Of course, the final score doesn’t show up in the win column. Twenty-four years after Dominic Raiola concluded his time with the Cornhuskers, his son took the field to face off against the Buffaloes again. However, it wasn’t close this time around.

On Saturday, starting quarterback Dylan Raiola led the Huskers to a 28-10 win over Colorado. In the victory, the freshman standout completed 23-of-his-30 pass attempts for 185 yards and a touchdown. Dominic Raiola had a hilarious reaction to his son’s spectacular performance.

“He literally said, ‘We’re still undefeated against Colorado,'” Dylan Raiola recalled with a smile. “I was like, ‘Oh, that’s the first thing you said, Dad? Awesome.’ So that was good. I’m just glad we won. It feels good.”

Nebraska not only won, it dominated. The Huskers never trailed the Buffaloes in the triumph. The team tallied 334 total yards of offense compared to Colorado’s mere 260.

Nebraska’s defense was excellent, holding Colorado to 16 total rushing yards and squeezing two turnovers out of the Buffaloes, one of which was a pick-six. After the game, Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule raved about his team’s performance.

Matt Rhule praises Nebraska, Dylan Raiola’s performance

“Not many people thought we were going to beat them by this much,” Rhule said. “Wasn’t really a contest in the second half. Defense played great. We had the one punt block that led to their only score. Probably got a little too conservative. Apparently, we got a lot of penalties in the second half, called back some big runs. We’re going to have to play a lot better. Playing some really good teams.”

Rhule particularly praised Raiola’s poise in the highly-anticipated matchup. With over 85,000 roaring fans in attendance, the first-year QB put on a show.

“Well, we’re not turning the ball over,” Rhule said. “It might look ugly in some ways but 28-10 tonight does not look ugly to me. We’ve got some things to correct but he’s not turning the ball over and we won in two minute. Two weeks in a row now, we’ve driven down and scored right before the half.”
