Michigan and Washington are set to compete on Monday night in the national championship. No matter who wins, a long title drought will be broken dating back to the 1990s. One of the unlikeliest matchups we could have imagined will now unfold in Houston.

Even so, it’s never too early to look forward to next season. Fan Duel has released early odds for the 2024-2025 national championship. The College Football Playoff is expanding to 12 teams as well, giving more teams an opportunity to be the final one standing next January.

It’s no surprise who is at the top, with the SEC dominating. Three of the top four teams come for the conference, with a Big Ten shout mixed in there.

Georgia Bulldogs +400

Georgia will lose their status as reigning national champions in just a few days. But the oddsmakers favor Kirby Smart‘s team to be back in the winner’s circle this time next season.

Carson Beck coming back was massive for Georgia. Sure, some offensive firepower will be leaving but the Bulldogs have dipped nicely into the NCAA transfer portal. Nobody in Athens expects to miss a beat.

Alabama Crimson Tide +550

Heartbreak from the Rose Bowl came from the Alabama sideline when Jalen Milroe was stopped on fourth and goal. For the third season in a row, Nick Saban failed to win a national championship, the longest drought during his tenure.

Good news for those in Tuscaloosa? A ton of key pieces are returning for another shot at it — both offensively and defensively. Alabama should continue to be one of the best teams in the country.

Ohio State Buckeyes +700

Ohio State made the biggest splash of Thursday, landing Will Howard out of the portal. He is set to replace Kyle McCord but Ryan Day will be hoping for a nice bump in quarterback play.

Many argue Ohio State was a made field goal against Georgia last season away from a national championship. The Buckeyes have bigger fish to fry than winning a title at the moment but it’s certainly on the docket in 2024.

Texas Longhorns +850

Texas is fresh off its first-ever appearance in the College Football Playoff but is left wanting more. Steve Sarkisian feels like he has the program in the right place and is now a legitimate national championship contender.

You have to assume Texas is this high up with the thought of Quinn Ewers returning for the 2024 season. Nothing has been made official but if Ewers does run it back, the Longhorns should be set to compete as the program moves to the SEC.

Michigan Wolverines +1000

Michigan fans, there is a current national championship you are likely more concerned with at the current moment. A little look into the future is never bad though, even if Jim Harbaugh is solely focused on Monday night.

There will be a lot of questions about Harbaugh’s status with the program moving forward. JJ McCarthy could be leaving for the NFL as well. However, Michigan has still done a great job roster building and should feel confident about maintaining this level of success.

Oregon Ducks +1200

Oregon will be losing one of the most experienced quarterbacks of all time in Bo Nix. So how does Dan Lanning replace him? By adding another well-versed signal-caller with Dillon Gabriel.

The Ducks have built up quite the roster and are another portal-heavy team. Lanning has not quite been able to get over the CFP hump but will be a favorite to do so with an expanded field.

LSU Tigers +1500

LSU will have a bit of uncertainty heading into next season, replacing both coordinator spots. Brian Kelly needed to make a change at DC, while Mike Denbrock left in favor of Notre Dame.

Expectations are still going to be high in Baton Rouge, though. A lot of offensive production will need to be replaced but the defensive stock can only go up compared to 2023.

Ole Miss Rebels +1500

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The Portal King has been doing Portal King things, bringing some of the best players in the country to Oxford. Lane Kiffin is serious about competing for a national championship next season.

Ole Miss does have a lighter schedule than usual, potentially boosting them up the board. It may have not even mattered with the type of roster Kiffin is constructing. A 12-team playoff should favor the Rebels quite nicely.

Florida State Seminoles +2500

Not too far removed from being snubbed from the CFP, Mike Norvell will be looking for revenge. Even after an Orange Bowl loss, the future is looking bright in Tallahassee.

Florida State has the best odds out of any ACC team at the moment. After going 13-0 and adding a conference championship, the Seminoles should have the opportunity to repeat the feat.

The college football landscape is going to look a whole lot different next fall. With the CFP changing and conference realignment finally coming to life, the odds are sure to change in the upcoming months.
