Early odds updated for 2022-23 college football national championship

A couple of weeks removed from the Georgia Bulldogs‘ historic national championship win, oddsmakers in Las Vegas are releasing odds for the 2023 national title.

The odds for the 2023 title look similar to the preseason odds heading into the 2021-22 season this past October. Despite losing the big game versus Georgia, Alabama is once again the favorite to win it all with Nick Saban this year. Georgia has near-equal odds to win after finally breaking the 41-year drought.

There are two strong non-SEC candidates to win it all next season, mainly Ohio State and Clemson. Michigan has also proved themselves a worthy contender after their CFP performances. However, USC and Oklahoma are also at the top of the odds, despite undergoing coaching changes. The Trojans gained steam this week, according to Vegas.

Perhaps the most underrated program, based on the odds, is Michigan State. After the Spartans went 11-2 and signed Mel Tucker to a massive new contract, they have the same odds as Auburn, South Carolina, and other .500 teams.

The most overrated program, based on the odds, may be the Florida Gators. After dismissing head coach Dan Mullen, the Gators are rebuilding with former Louisiana skipper Billy Napier. They’ll face a gauntlet with opponents like Utah and Texas A&M on the schedule, as well as LSU, Georgia and the rest of their conference games.
