2022 Port Saint Lucie (Fla.) Treasure Coast running back Eden James had 267 rushing yards in a win against American Heritage Plantation, a nationally ranked high school. Eden is the son of Hall of Fame running back Edgerrin James.

The Treasure Coast Titans traveled to Naples, Florida in order to play Plantation American Heritage Patriots, and Eden James put on a show against their tough opponent. With his father Edgerrin in attendance, Eden rushed for 267 yards and two touchdowns in a game held in the same county his father grew up in.

The Patriots entered the game ranked seventh in the nation in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25. Treasure Coast was ranked No. 13 in Class 8A in Florida.

The Titans did not attempt a pass during the game, electing to run only. They averaged 8.7 yards per play and didn’t have a negative play until the third quarter. The Patriots defense that Eden James had his monster day against features four-star recruits Earl Little Jr. and Jacolby Spells, as well as five-star defensive end Marvin Jones Jr.

“What really motivated me was the people that doubted us,” Eden James said after the game. “Our area, they said we was going to lose like 34-17. We just beat [American Heritage] Plantation, one of the top teams in the nation, who is a very, very good team. We beat them 29-21. That’s really what motivated me and my team to push and do what we did tonight.”

“I think we learned that we don’t know how good we really are,” James continued. “Now that we just beat Plantation American Heritage, I think that gives us an idea of what we can possibly do, and possibly make it to states. Hopefully we just keep this train rolling, not get high off it as if we just won the Super Bowl like Coach [Irvin] Jones said, and just go 1-0 every week.”

Like father, like son

Eden James’ 267 rushing yards against the Patriots blew away his previous career-high of 156 yards that he set last season.

His father played high school football for Immokalee, just 40 miles away from Naples. Edgerrin James may still have top marks to brag about however as he posted a 305 yard, three-touchdown game his senior year at Immokalee.

Eden will have high expectations for him as he continues his football career, and not just because his father has been enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

As Treasure Coast seeks a state championship, every school they meet will be looking to take down Eden James’ team.
