Saturday’s matchup between Missouri and Texas A&M will be quite the family affair. Aggies quarterback Marcel Reed’s sister, Briah, is on Eli Drinkwitz’s staff at Mizzou – and the coach joked she wouldn’t be allowed to attend practice ahead of the game.

However, the Tigers appeared to clear the air on the “ban” in question. Drinkwitz posed for a picture alongside Briah Reed and assistant director of on-campus recruiting Ella Guerrero, whose brother plays at Baylor. The caption was simple: “Football brings family together.”

Briah Reed is also an assistant director of on-campus recruiting at Missouri, and Drinkwitz joked she wouldn’t be allowed near the scouting reports during Wednesday’s SEC coaches teleconference. He said he wasn’t kidding, but it appears she ended up attending practice, after all.

Marcel Reed has been the starter for Texas A&M in place of Conner Weigman, who’s been dealing with an injury. That means he’s a big part of Missouri’s game plan, and Drinkwitz noted the sense around the building about game-planning for one of his staffers’ brother.

“It’s created an interesting dynamic. At the end of the day that’s her brother and that’s her blood, and we know that she’s doing her job here,” Drinkwitz said. “But family is always so important and so we don’t want her to be in any type of conflict of interest. In fact I just saw her in the hallway just a second ago. But I’m not letting her in the copy room and she’s sure not going to have her eyes on the scouting report.”

Eli Drinkwitz was then asked if he was serious about keeping Briah Reed away from practice, and he reiterated he was. However, he praised the job she does on Mizzou’s staff – but added she might be able to watch the portion of the workouts available to the media.

“No I wasn’t joking. No, Briah is awesome. I actually didn’t even know until after the Florida game that that was her brother,” Drinkwitz said. “If she wants to go to practice I’m sure she could be out there probably same as the media, first five periods.”
