Elite 11 Preview Post

Day one of the Elite 11 Finals, featuring 20 of the nation’s top 2024 quarterback recruits, is set to kick off Tuesday evening in Los Angeles.

There are few higher honors for high school quarterbacks than being invited to the event, which will celebrate its 26th year in 2024. It brings together the country’s elite signal-callers for three days of competition, skill work and training, which culminates with a 7-on-7 skills showcase on Thursday night.

Each of the prospects was selected after being a top performer during one of the event’s eight regional feeder camps.

This year’s group features 14 of the top 20 quarterbacks in the On3 Industry Ranking and nine of the country’s top 10 passers. On3’s national recruiting team of Chad Simmons, Steve Wiltfong, and Charles Power are on hand Tuesday night for the first throwing session and will be providing live coverage throughout.

Live Updates from Elite 11 Finals Day 1

8:47 p.m. PT: “Deuce Knight and Keelon Russell looked good throwing bang 8 routes and speed outs. Both showed live arms. KaMario Taylor was up and down but had a really nice throw over the middle when everything came together.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

8:35 p.m. PT: Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele has shown one of the stronger arms so far.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

8:34 p.m. PT: “Iowa State commit Alex Manske has a whippy motion. Missouri commit Matt Zollers had some nice throws but a few misses.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

8:19 p.m. PT: “Tavien St. Clair has easily been one of the best to come through my station so far. Pinpoint accuracy from the Ohio State pledge. USC commit Julian Lewis has had some hits and misses. UNC commit Bryce Baker continues to show a strong arm. Oregon commit Akili Smith has a longer motion that leads to some erratic throws, but has had some solid passes when everything is aligned.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

8:10 p.m. PT: “Just watched Luke Nickel, Tramell Jones, TJ Lateef and Ty Hawkins — Jones was the most consistent in that station. Nickel was also good and technically sound.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

8:07 p.m. PT: “Notre Dame commit Deuce Knight in rhythm hitting WRs in stride.” — Steve Wiltfong, On3 Vice President of Recruiting

8:02 p.m. PT: “Florida State commit Tramell Jones has a tight throwing motion hitting the bang 8 route.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

7:57 p.m. PT: “Just finished watching Husan Longstreet, Kevin Sperry, K.J. Lacey and Ryan Montgomery. Longstreet’s arm stands out in a big way within the group. Sperry and Lacey spun it well for the most part. Montgomery tends to drop his elbow within the motion which can create a longer release time.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

7:54 p.m. PT: “Iowa State QB commit Alex Manske has been accurate rolling out and on play action.” — Steve Wiltfong, On3 Vice President of Recruiting

7:49 p.m. PT: “Oklahoma commit Kevin Sperry has a quick stroke that’s evident in throwing comebacks.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

7:38 p.m. PT: “Texas A&M commit Husan Longstreet has lived up to his reputation as having one of the strongest arms in the cycle. Palpable RPMs from him so far. Mississippi State commit KaMario Taylor also has a big arm. Taylor has some of the largest hands here and doesn’t always throw with the laces, but is able to spin it much better when he does.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

7:26 p.m. PT: “Longstreet talks to On300 WR Kelshaun Johnson every day. Family feels good about him being an Aggie. They think Texas A&M made a big move with 5-star Kaliq Lockett as well.” — Steve Wiltfong, On3 Vice President of Recruiting

7:23 p.m. PT: Husan Longstreet just ripped a couple downfield dimes. The future Aggie is in terrific shape.” — Steve Wiltfong, On3 Vice President of Recruiting

7:22 p.m. PT: “TCU commit Ty Hawkins and Alabama commit Keelon Russell have shown bouncy feet in drills.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

7:18 p.m. PT: “Mississippi State QB commit KaMario Taylor looks real traitsy out here. Fluid thrower, bounce to him as he goes through drills, already mature physically.” — Steve Wiltfong, On3 Vice President of Recruiting

7:13 p.m. PT: “North Carolina commit Bryce Baker showed easy arm strength on the far hash, stationary throws.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

7:10 p.m. PT: “Some strong buzz around Michigan going into On300 TE Andrew Olesh’s visit this weekend. ‘If they blow me out of the water it’s going to be a hard decision.’ I’d put the Wolverines in pole position coming into his trip. He’s out here catching passes.” — Steve Wiltfong, On3 Vice President of Recruiting

7:02 p.m. PT: “Like the way the ball comes out of Miami commit Luke Nickel’s hand in warmups. He looks consistent and is able to get it out and up easily.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

6:57 p.m. PT: “Julian Lewis heads straight to Colorado Thursday night from here. His dad TC says he expects a final decision before the start of the season. I did think there was a chance he’d attend some games and watch some teams play and attend some games.” — Steve Wiltfong, On3 Vice President of Recruiting

6:55 p.m. PT: Julian Lewis my prediction to win it. I think his consistency throwing in this type of setting gives him an edge and he’s fresh off leading Carrollton to 7v7 wins at Auburn and Georgia team camps.” — Steve Wiltfong, On3 Vice President of Recruiting

6:52 p.m. PT: Luke Nickel playing with a minor ankle injury this week.” — Steve Wiltfong, On3 Vice President of Recruiting

6:43 p.m. PT: “E11 coach and former LSU QB Craig Nall high on Notre Dame commit Deuce Knight coming into the competition. ‘That dude’s a monster.'” — Steve Wiltfong, On3 Vice President of Recruiting

6:37 p.m. PT: “Jaime Ffrench is committing in late August. He’s at Texas this weekend. He will then head somewhere in late July. This one is right with Texas and LSU and Miami gave him a good visit too.” — Steve Wiltfong, On3 Vice President of Recruiting

6:34 p.m. PT: “College quarterbacks Dillon Gabriel (Oregon), Cade Klubnik (Clemson) and Kaidon Salter (Liberty) are here as counselors.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

6:33 p.m. PT: “Pete Carroll is here.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

6:32 p.m. PT: “The quarterbacks just arrived. In a cool touch, they’re wearing gear in the colors of their respective high school programs. Just walking in, Mississippi State commit KaMario Taylor immediately passes the eye test. He looks like a college player physically.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

6:31 p.m. PT: “Elite WRs Vernell Brown and Jaime Ffrench just walked in.” — Steve Wiltfong, On3 Vice President of Recruiting

6:28 p.m. PT: “Just talked to Tavien St Clair’s parents. The family heads from the E11 Finals to Ohio State for the official visit. Same weekend as David Sanders Jr. and they’re ready to help continue recruiting the Five-Star Plus+ prospect. I feel the Buckeyes are in the lead group with Tennessee and Georgia with a few others obviously still in play.” — Steve Wiltfong, On3 Vice President of Recruiting

6:18 p.m. PT: “This is a talented group of quarterbacks with a number of high upside, intriguing prospects. We’re looking forward to seeing them all in person. Tonight’s workout gives us the chance to size up the group while the pro day on Wednesday and the 7on7 on Thursday is more of an individual competitive environment.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

6:16 p.m. PT: “The quarterbacks should be arriving at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach fairly soon. Today’s session is primarily drill work – they split into groups and move throughout different stations. The workout ends with an elimination ‘Rail Shot Challenge.'” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings
