In a typical year, the Elite 11 Finals have very little to do with recruiting. Participants are locked in with a school by that point in the summer, and much of the focus is on their performances and rankings coming out of the three-day event.

This recruiting cycle is far from typical. Three of the top 12 quarterbacks in the On3 Consensus are yet to commit, and more than a dozen of the country’s biggest programs are without a passer in this recruiting cycle: GeorgiaTexas A&MLSUOregonOhio StateMichiganFloridaAuburnSouth Carolina and Kentucky among them.

As the country’s best quarterbacks head to Los Angeles, On3 has compiled the latest intel on their recruitments.

Austin Novosad is heating up

Just a few months ago, Dripping Springs (Texas) passer Austin Novosad was comfortably committed to in-state Baylor. The Bears beat out a handful of Group of Five schools to land him, and everything was pointing green and gold. As the calendar turns to July, two new schools have entered the race: Ohio State and Texas A&M.

The Buckeyes offered and brought him on campus for an official visit earlier this month. The Aggies, a family legacy program, brought him to campus last weekend for an unofficial visit and extended an offer. Those two are making it a very difficult decision, one he looks to have made soon after the Elite 11 Finals end on Thursday.

On3 National Recruiting Analyst Sam Spiegelman: “Both Ohio State and Texas A&M have made an impression on Novosad. He has strong connections at Baylor, but I like where Ryan Day and Co. are at as we head into the Elite 11. Day’s hands-on involvement with the quarterbacks and the relationship he has built with Corey Dennis are big reasons as to why the Buckeyes have gotten into this race in such a big way.”

A new suitor for Brock Glenn

Auburn has been the odds-on favorite for months with Memphis (Tenn.) Lausanne Academy quarterback Brock Glenn. His given first name is actually Auburn, and the family has strong ties with the Tigers. He named Auburn, along with Florida StateMississippi StateOhio State and TCU as his finalists last week.

That was before an LSU offer came his way, though. With five-star Detroit (Mich.) King QB Dante Moore trending toward Oregon, the Tigers have started to make other moves. Glenn is another passer who, like Novosad, would prefer to have his recruitment closed soon after this week.

On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons: “Brock would like to commit sooner rather than later, but he hasn’t set a date yet. Auburn and Ohio State are the schools I’m hearing the most about, but he is still communicating with numerous schools — including LSU — at this point.”

The end is in sight for Avery Johnson

Along with the aforementioned Moore, four-star Maize (Kan.) passer Avery Johnson has been at the top of Oregon’s board in recent weeks. The Ducks have been trying to make a move on Kansas State, the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) leader. With a July 5 commitment scheduled, all signs point to the Wildcats beating out the Ducks and Washington.

Simmons: “I still like Kansas State coming out of this weekend. The Wildcats’ coaching staff has made him their top priority, and he has good relationships with a number of the players they already have committed.”

Other names to watch at the Elite 11 Finals

Only Moore and four-star Snellville (Ga.) Brookwood QB Dylan Lonergan remain among the uncommitted top-10 quarterbacks. The latter won’t be at Elite 11, and himself is scheduled to announce July 5 with South Carolina leading in the On3 RPM.

But a handful of committed prospects could be seeing new suitors come into their recruitment. According to Spiegelman, LSU is a program to watch with four-star Purdue commit Rickie Collins, who lives right down the road in Baton Rouge. Mississippi State is making a major push to flip four-star Florida State commit Chris Parson, and the Bulldogs are in very good shape to do so. And recent Miami commit Emory Williams could be a prospect FSU and Florida turn the heat up on.

In addition, Georgia could be the next program to get involved with Brock Glenn, though the Bulldogs also hosted Novosad for a recent visit.
