Los Alamitos, Calif. quarterback Malachi Nelson is one of the best in the class of 2023. The 6-foot-3, 180 pound five-star signal caller was wanted by many of the top programs in the country, but Oklahoma is the school that got that call.
Auburn offered him first — before he started high school. And he has more than two dozen offers.
The Sooners beat out Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State and USC for his commitment.

Nelson had strong feelings about the Sooners without ever visiting Norman, but after he spent time on campus in June, met with Lincoln Riley and felt the vibe in June, his recruitment was a wrap.
The decision has been made for some time, and Nelson has made his commitment to Oklahoma public.
Watch Nelson break down his decision with On3.
Nelson is a dual-threat quarterback with a big arm, mobility and the ability to extend plays. He took a big step in a shortened season in 2020, and is expected to do big things as a junior in 2021. The new Oklahoma commit is considered one of the best in the country by On3.
