Cocoa (Fla.) four-star EDGE Javion Hilson has decommitted from Florida State, he announced on Sunday evening.

Hilson had previously been committed to the Seminoles since January.

“After careful consideration, I have decided to decommit from Florida State and reopen my recruitment,” he wrote on Twitter. “I will be making my final decision in December. Thank you to everyone at FSU for their support.”

The 6-foot-3, 225-pounder is the No. 37 overall prospect in the 2025 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 2 EDGE and the No. 7 recruit in the Sunshine State.

Hilson was also previously committed to Alabama, but backed off that pledge in January after Nick Saban retired and flipped his commitment to the Seminoles.

He also becomes the second major decommitment for FSU in as many days, joining four-star defensive lineman Myron Charles, who flipped to Texas on Saturday.

Hilson took official visits with both the Longhorns and Seminoles this summer, as well as Florida and UCF. Each of those other programs is expected to be a contender in his recruitment all the way through December.

One of the Sunshine State’s most prolific defenders, Hilson helped Cocoa to a Class 2S title in 2023 while totaling 97 tackles, including 27 tackles for loss, 14 sacks and three forced fumbles.

Florida State’s class, which once hovered near the top 10 of the On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings, has dropped to No. 17 nationally after the losses of Hilson and Charles. The ‘Noles currently hold 11 commitments, including that of five-star offensive lineman Solomon Thomas, but will have to work hard to keep them in the fold as other schools circle.
