One of the best point guards in the country, Elliot Cadeau of Link Academy (MO), recently narrowed down his long list of schools to six. The 6-foot-2 class of 2024 prospect included Kansas, Louisville, North Carolina, Syracuse, Texas, and Texas Tech among his finalists.

Of the six, Cadeau has visited three programs: Louisville, Texas Tech, and North Carolina.

The native of Oradell, N.J. recapped those trips and updated his recruitment over the weekend at the City of Palms Classic down in Fort Myers.

Cadeau recaps visits

Louisville: “The visit was good. (Kenny Payne) is really, really nice. He’s really smart and really wise. I feel like he knows a lot about basketball. He’s well-connected.”

Texas Tech: “It felt like a family. Everybody there is really humble and nobody is cocky or anything. That’s what stood out to me the most.”

North Carolina: “UNC is really like a family too. I think the whole staff played at UNC or graduated from there. So the fact that everybody is coming back proves a lot about the school.”

Possible visit to Syracuse but looking to “finish out” his recruitment

As of this writing, Cadeau hasn’t scheduled any additional visits but mentioned a trip to Syracuse is possible. He also isn’t closed off to taking other visits too.

“We’re in talks of trying to get out there,” he said of Syracuse.

Cadeau then immediately followed up by noting how the recruitment process is starting to wane on him, and to no surprise either.

“I’m trying to finish out my recruitment because it’s really stressful,” he says.

Commitment timetable and reclassification

Cadeau doesn’t have a commitment date yet but says he would like to make a decision before the AAU season begins in April.

Reclassifying to 2023 is also an option, but he hasn’t fully made up his mind just yet.

“I think it will be a last-minute decision,” he said of reclassifying to 2023. “I think I’m staying in 2024 for now. Me and the coaches both bring it up. We’re not trying to force anything because I’ve seen a lot of people reclass up and it not work for them.

“If a school I really want to go to, if there point guard enters the draft out of nowhere, then I might be ready for that spot.”

Cadeau concluded by saying he ultimately will not make a decision on reclassification until after the AAU season which ends in July.

Scouting Summary

“The speed is what jumps off the page immediately with Elliot Cadeau,” On3’s Jamie Shaw writes. “He is a jet-quick, paint-touch point guard who gets into the paint when he wants. Cadeau is a confident jump shooter with deep range off the bounce and the catch. His size will be the question mark with him. He has good floor vision and a crafty handle to get his spots on the floor, but he does look to shoot first at times. He is a savvy floor general who exudes confidence throughout his team.”

Cadeau ranks as the No. 10 overall prospect in the class, according to the On3 Consensus — the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 2 point guard.
