The 2027 On3 100 player rankings have been updated. This is the first update for the class, which debuted with the top 50 in September 2024, with this update expanding the list to a top 100.

Updated 2027 On3 100

On3’s debut of the 2027 rankings was in September, just after the travel season ended, and before their sophomore years of high school began. We are now almost through the high school regular season. Since the last update, On3 has attended numerous national high school events, games, team workouts, etc. The sky miles have been accumulated by the On3 national team attending esteemed events like the Hoophall Classic, Tarkanian Classic, Prep Nationals, Beach Ball Classic, John Wall Holiday Invitational, Hoophall Prep Showcase, The Bash, Big Shots, High School Playoffs, and more.

In-person evaluations are a big part of the overall evaluation process of prep prospects. However, there are multiple showcases and events, taking place every week(end) throughout the high school season. To prepare for this update, On3 has also collected streams and data points and combed through the film for the last couple of months as we ensure the maximum exposure of countless events and players.

The ranking process is continuous and often fluid. On3 starts ranking recruits after their freshman-year travel team schedule, before the start of their sophomore high school season. That recruit can look a lot different for our final ranking after their senior year championships and all-star games are played. Movement in this update largely accounts for what we have seen through the majority of the 2024-25 high school season.

We have spent the last couple of months working on this 2027 update so that it will reflect the most accurate and current representation of the recruiting cycle. Naturally, expanding the list from 50 to 100, 50 players made their debut within the ranking. We have also continued collecting data and viewings of the previously ranked players, putting eyes on them throughout the full recruiting process.

This is the second update for the 2027 recruiting cycle. The next update for this class will come after the scholastic live period and Pangos and NBPA Top 100 Camps.

The goal of rankings at On3 is to assess a prospect’s long-term potential. As we continue forward, a player’s performance on the court and their continued growth will outweigh their earlier rankings. Again, every player’s arc is different, and each ranking is a snapshot in time.

Updated 2027 On3 100

Here are some storylines from On3’s second update of the 2027 recruiting class.

Grading On3’s 2027 Rankings

The basketball player rankings scale is as follows: Five-star prospects have ratings between 98 and 100, four-star recruits have ratings between 90 and 97, and three-star prospects have ratings between 80 and 89.

In this update, there are no five-star players rated 98 or higher. Players ranked from No. 1 to 85 are classified as four-star prospects with ratings between 90 and 97. The remaining players, up to No. 100, along with the position rankings, are considered three-star prospects.

At On3, we aim to assess a prospect’s long-term potential, ultimately measured by the NBA Draft. The goal of the ranking is not to evaluate who had the best high school career or who will be the best college player. This is why we aim to end each cycle with 15 five-star prospects, following the model of the NBA Draft Lottery. Our vision centers on draft night.

Obinna Ekezie, Jr takes over the No. 1 Spot

Obinna Ekezie, Jr. is a 7-foot-0 center at Napa (CA) Prolific Prep. The sophomore is the son of former Maryland and NBA center Obinna Ekezie. Ekezie jumped up from No. 4 in the initial ranking and he moves into the No. 1 spot from Ryan Hampton, who moves to No. 5 overall in Monday’s update.

The race for the No. 1 overall spot in this class remains wide open. As we have seen, with only two iterations of these rankings, there have already been two different players manning the No. 1 spot, and still no five stars given out.

Ekezie, is a true 7-foot-0 prosepct who has great hands with an advanced post game on the block. He is a big man that, even at this stage, you can dump the ball down to in the post, and he can create an offensvie advantage. He has patience with a handful of counter moves off of his go-to over his left shoulder. Ekezie is capable of playing out of the dunker spot and can act as a roll man, attacking the front of the rim. Given his size, and his mobility, Ekezie is a natural rim protector showing great timing at the basket able to play drop coverage, man, or trapping/switching style defenses.

As we noted above, there is not a five-star player in this class yet. Ekezie and Bruce Branch were the two players who have earned a 97 rating at this point in the cycle. While Josh Leonard, King Gibson, and Ryan Hampton each have 96 ratings. We simply do not like to take stars away from players at the top of the rankings. With that, and the early stages of this class, we are not yet comfortable tabbing anyone a five-star.

As we continue collecting data points toward the end of the high school basketball season, and move into the travel season, growth and upward trajetory will remain paramount for each of these players.

King Gibson top PG in 2027 cycle

Montverde (FL) Academy’s King Gibson rose from No. 8 to No. 4 overall in On3’s most recent 2027 ranking update. The 6-foot-5 Gibson transferred schools in December, and took over a primarily on-ball roll for his new team.

Gibson has proven to be comfortable playing on or off the ball. He plays a controlled game, not only showcasing instincts, but also the coveted positional size at the point of attack. He has good feel, and takes care of possessions, getting the ball to the proper areas of the floor and staying away from things that put the ball in danger. He is also can self-create offense for himself in the halfcourt.

Here are the top five point guards in On3’s 2027 ranking update.

1 4-Star King Gibson, Montverde (FL) Academy (No. 4)
2. 4-Star Jason Gardner, Fishers (IN) High (No. 15)
3. 4-Star Reese Alson, Houston (TX) Second Baptist (No. 18)
4. 4-Star Dooney Johnson, Milwaukee (WI) Juneau (No. 19)
5. 4-Star TJ Jamison, Baton Rouge (LA) Calvary Baptist (No. 23)

Florida puts 10 players in the 2027 On3 100

Ten players in the updated and expanded 2027 On3 100 play their high school basketball in the state of Florida. The top-ranked prospect who calls the Sunshine State home is King Gibson, at No. 4 overall. Gibson is a 6-foot-5 point guard at Montverde (FL) Academy. In all, 31 states are represented in the updated ranking as well as players from Spain and Canada.
