Georgia reminded everyone of what it is capable of on Saturday against Clemson, pounding the Tiger 34-3 in Atlanta. The Bulldogs led 6-0 at the half, before pulling away for the comfortable win. It was a performance that impressed ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit, who said during the preseason that he felt like Clemson was getting overlooked nationally.

Herbstreit still feels that Clemson will be just fine, but he believes the game proved that Georgia is once again elite. He shared his takeaways from the matchup on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday.

“How about the reminder of Georgia? Holy cow. I mean you guys can kick Dabo right now – and I’m not saying you guys but the nation can have fun with him, he doesn’t do NIL,” Herbstreit said. “The bottom line, they still have a defense. They still have NFL players at the line of scrimmage on the defensive side, Barrett Carter. They’re a pretty good team.

“I think when the dust settles at the end of the year, I think we’ll see that Clemson’s a pretty good football team. But Georgia just pounded them.”

The Bulldogs outgained Clemson 447 to 188 and outscored the Tigers 28-3 in the second half.

Herbstreit loved everything that he saw from Georgia and feels that right now, they have separated from everyone else.

“They got the quarterback in Carson Beck. They just reload with the skill spots, hit the portal a little bit at receiver, defense is just nasty,” Kirk Herbstreit said. “Because Georgia played somebody, I feel like we’re back to, ‘OK there’s Georgia, and we’re going to find out who else wants to be invited to play up there with Georgia’ after one week. So a long way to go.”

Georgia returns to action on Saturday, hosting Tennessee Tech in its home opener at 2 p.m. As for the Tigers, they will host Appalachian State on Saturday at 8 p.m.

App State has Clemson’s full attention as the Mountaineers have given Power 4 programs fits in recent years and would love to pull off another upset this weekend.

“We’re excited to have a new week and get back at it this week and super excited to be playing here at home,” Dabo Swinney said during his press conference on Tuesday. “A night game in the Valley is special. We truly get seven of these days a year and this is one of them. Finally here.

“We work all year to have these opportunities. So a great start to the week yesterday with our guys and eyes forward on a really tough App State team.”
