NFL insider: Indianapolis Colts weighing options between Will Levis, Anthony Richardson
The NFL Draft is approaching and the once murky projections of who is likely to go where have cleared up, at least a little bit. Bryce Young and CJ Stroud appear to be the top two choices for Carolina and Houston, the two QB-needy clubs picking No. 1 and No. 2. After that, it’s still anyone’s guess. However, one of ESPN’s draft pundits, Jeremy Fowler, believes Indianapolis is in play to snatch up one of the other top quarterbacks with their No. 4 pick.
He joined Get Up on ESPN2 to discuss several draft topics, the final of which being the decision he believes the Colts have in front of them.
“We have Anthony Richardson and Will Levis. So, they are in the mix in the top 10 certainly. But possibly with Indianapolis at No. 4 overall,” said Fowler. “Teams I’ve talked to expect Indy to look hard and very possibly draft one of these two. Now, Kentucky coach Mark Stoops told me that Indy has done its homework on Will Levis and he fits the prototypical mold that they’ve typically looked for the past: that big, sturdy quarterback pocket passer.”
Levis is right down the alley for what the traditional Colts quarterback looks like. Tall, big-bodied and with an absolute cannon. There’s a lot of similarities physically between he and Andrew Luck. Luck was much more polished as a passer coming out of Stanford in 2012 and was virtually a can’t miss prospect at No. 1 overall, so it’s no direct comparison. However, Levis has similar attributes that could be intriguing to the Colts.

Then again, the younger and more athletic Richardson also fits that mold as well, and would also fit right into what Indianapolis’ new coach had success with when he was the Philadelphia offense led by dual-threat quarterback Jalen Hurts.
“But don’t discount the presence of Shane Steichen, the new head coach,” added Fowler. “He knows how to use mobile quarterbacks. So teams are watching whether he’ll go all in on Anthony Richardson, do a little bit of what he did with Jalen Hurts, translate that to a guy with high upside in Richardson.”
Either way, it sure seems like the Colts are in position to pickup their next franchise quarterback. With Young and Stroud looking like the probable first and second picks (for now), Indianapolis very well may be choosing between the Kentucky and Florida kids when they’re on the clock. .
