College GameDay will be without a familiar face on Saturday morning as Lee Corso has not traveled to Jackson, Mississippi, due to a health issue, ESPN announced. GameDay will be broadcast from Jackson State University for the “BoomBox Classic” against Southern.

The update from ESPN noted that Corso, who is 87, remains upbeat.

“Coach Corso is in good spirits and he hopes to be back on the road with the crew soon,” the release said.

Corso has missed two previous editions of GameDay earlier in October. On Oct. 1, he missed the broadcast from Clemson after he woke up under the weather. The following week at Kansas, he was again absent.

“Lee Corso not with us this week, and those of you who are with us every week know that [Corso] didn’t feel great last week in Clemson,” said ESPN’s Rece Davis then in Lawrence. “Feeling much better, spoke to him yesterday, but still another week to recuperate. We hope get LC back in the chair coming up pretty soon.”

Corso was in good spirits when he missed some time earlier in the season

After waking up under the weather on Oct. 1, Corso went to get checked out by a doctor and decided it was best for him to remain away from the game day festivities at Clemson.

“The great Lee Corso, a staple of his show, woke up this morning, feeling a little bit under the weather,” Davis said. “We went, made sure he had been checked out. But he’s feeling much better now, we’re happy to report, and also happy to say that at one point he told the doctors, ‘Yeah, I feel this way because I think Clemson was overrated.’”

The humor always shins through for the former football coach. The crowd at Clemson popped, too. Kirk Herbstreit added to Davis’ report, noting that Corso is, “never talking bad about Clemson again.” Typical Lee Corso humor.
