ESPN baseball insider offers MLB projections for LSU's Dylan Crews and Florida's Wyatt Langford
The 2023 version of the College World Series Final features some of the top MLB prospects in the country. Both the Florida Gators‘ and LSU Tigers‘ rosters are oozing with jaw-dropping talent all over the place. Simply put, the Gators and Tigers are the last two teams standing in Omaha for a reason. During Saturday night’s broadcast, ESPN’s MLB analyst Kiley McDaniel offered up his analysis on LSU slugger Dylan Crews and Florida slugger Wyatt Langford.
“Dylan Crews was one of the most famous high school prospects in recent memory, looking like a high first-round pick as early as his sophomore year in high school in Florida,” McDaniel began.
“Where Wyatt Langford was essentially anonymous to scouts, until last season, his sophomore year at Florida. They are closer than people think as prospects, with Crews’ separating ability being his instincts in center field and his pitch selection, that key tool to get to the power of games. Even though Langford is a bit faster and has a bit more raw power. They both will comfortably rank in the Top 25 of my Top 100 MLB prospects when they sign.”
ESPN also flashed a comparison chart on the screen shortly after his analysis, comparing the past two seasons for Crews and Langford. Check that out below.

Many people have already pegged Crews as the No. 1 overall prospect in the upcoming 2023 MLB Draft, so it’s certainly not a surprise to hear McDaniel slot him in his Top 25 prospects. Crews got on base on Saturday evening for LSU. It’s the 73rd consecutive game he’s gotten on base. He was recently named SEC Player of the Year for the second straight season. Crews brought home Baton Rouge Regional MVP honors after propelling the Tigers to the Super Regional. He was also named a 2023 Golden Spikes Award Finalist, along with LSU pitcher Paul Skenes and Florida slugger Jac Caglianone.
Langford has a unique swing that MLB Network’s Mark DeRosa and Dan O’Dowd recently broke down. As you can see from the chart above, he’s blasted 45 home runs the past two seasons compared with Crews’ 40. He was named a second team All-American this season by Collegiate Baseball. In the Gators’ remarkable comeback against the Virginia Cavaliers in the opening round of the College World Series, Langford found freon coursing through his veins. In the bottom of the ninth inning, he blasted a solo shot 456 feet to tie the game up at 5-5. Florida would go on to win that one, 6-5, in walk-off fashion.
Saturday night’s game is currently tied at 3-3 in the top of the eighth inning. It should be yet another exciting series in what will go down as one of the best College World Series fans will ever see.
