Both Georgia and Ole Miss were able to pick up massive wins on Saturday at home, setting up for what should be an incredible matchup between the two. All SEC fans were going to tune in for the game in Athens but now, the national spotlight will be there. ESPN College GameDay announced it will be their Week 11 destination.

In a vacuum, Kirby Smart going up against Lane Kiffin is a college football fan’s dream. One of the best defensive minds in the sport going up against a top offensive mind. Of course, there is a connection between them for being former Nick Saban assistants. But to this point, they have not faced off against one another as head coaches.

Add in how the two are currently playing and a ton of intrigue is added to the game. Georgia is currently undefeated following back-to-back national championships, while Ole Miss has just one loss on the season and is still technically alive in the SEC West race.

We should be in store for a great game, all unfolding on Saturday afternoon. You can check out the full announcement from ESPN College GameDay here.

Georgia, Ole Miss playing in unusual SEC matchup

With how the SEC scheduling has worked over the years, Georgia and Ole Miss are not common opponents. One has sat in the East, while the Rebels represent the West. The two schools have not played since the 2016 season and before then, 2012 was the last game.

Playing so late in the season is unusual as well. In fact, with the 2:30 kickoff time, it will be the penultimate divisional crossover game in the conference. Mizzou will end the season with Arkansas but that’s a matchup we have gotten for a few years now.

There will be something on the line between the hedges too. If Georgia can come out victorious, they will head to the SEC Championship and win the East with a win. At the moment, every other team in the division has two losses and with the Bulldogs only having two conference games remaining, they are in the driver’s seat.

Depending on other results in the West, Ole Miss could be facing elimination in the West. Kiffin’s team is going to need some help but for a team that has never been to Atlanta, the dream is going to be alive heading into Week 11.
