The Golf and College Football worlds are colliding on Saturday morning. With the College GameDay crew setting up in Austin for the TCU vs. Texas game, they decided to bring on pro golfer Jordan Spieth to be this week’s celebrity guest picker.

Spieth attended the University of Texas and is a three-time major championship winner. Simply one of the best golfers in the game. A great choice for the guest picker spot.

As for the game itself, TCU and Texas will kick off Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. ET and 6:30 p.m. local central time. Horned Frogs come in ranked fourth in the nation with an undefeated record. These guys are prime contenders for the College Football Playoff. Huge opportunity for Texas to leap right back into the Big 12 title race.

Steve Sarkisian excited about opportunity to face top-5 team

Sarkisian discussed what it would take to motivate his players to be at the level they’d need to be this weekend on Thursday. How he sees it is if you’re not turned up for this game already, what challenge would get you fired up?

“Everybody like a challenge. You wouldn’t be a competitor if you didn’t love a challenge,” said Sarkisian. “Obviously it’s a great challenge when you talk about playing a Top-5 team. My reference was we haven’t done it since 1999. The idea that we have an opportunity to do something like that? I think, as a competitor, (it) naturally instills a little bit more motivation in there.”

“The reality of it is you’ve got to go play the game, but it sets the stage for a great opportunity for us for something that we haven’t done in a while.”

The game Sarkisian is referring to would be their win over No. 3 Nebraska in 1999. Still, this is a win that his program would be able to hang its hat on. A win over the Crimson Tide slipped away from them as they looked to make a statement against Nick Saban’s team but, after earning their first ranked conference win under Sarkisian last weekend, they’re ready to go big game hunting again.
