ESPN College GameDay will be in town when South Carolina and LSU face off in Baton Rouge on Thursday, Jan. 25, ESPN has announced.

Elle Duncan will host the show and will be joined by Andraya Carter, Rebecca Lobo, Carolyn Peck and Holly Rowe. College GameDay will air at 7 p.m., ahead of the 8 p.m. tip off.

The game is part of ESPN’s annual We Back Pat initiative honoring late women’s basketball coaching legend Pat Summitt.

The defending national champion Tigers will get a visit from the top-ranked Gamecocks. South Carolina is 15-0 (3-0), while LSU is 16-2 (3-1).

Both teams have two more games before the massive showdown that College GameDay will be in town for.

South Carolina hosts Kentucky and plays at Texas A&M, before traveling to Baton Rouge. LSU plays at Alabama and hosts Arkansas, before hosting the Gamecocks.

South Carolina won last year’s meeting between the two SEC powers in impressive fashion. The Gamecocks earned an 88-64 win over the Tigers on their way to an undefeated regular season.

However, Dawn Staley’s team was upset by Iowa in the Final 4 after going 36-0 to open the year. The Gamecocks lost several key players off of last year’s team and were expected to take a step back this season. Instead, they have been No. 1 for most of the year.

South Carolina opened the season with back-to-back blowout wins over Notre Dame and Maryland. The closest win for the Gamecocks on the season is seven points.

Even though LSU was outplayed by South Carolina in the one meeting between the two teams last year, the Tigers ended up having the more impressive season.

After Iowa beat South Carolina in the Final 4, it set up a meeting between the Hawkeyes and Tigers. LSU pulled away for a 102-85 victory, giving Kim Mulkey her fourth national championship.

Expectations were high for the Tigers entering the 2023-24 season with Angel Reese back for another year. However, LSU got off to a shaky start. The Tigers lost their season opener against Colorado, before winning 16 straight. However, they suffered another loss this past weekend, falling 67-62 at Auburn.

You can expect both teams to be at their best and fired up for the Jan. 25 showdown with College GameDay in attendance. The winner of that game will be in a good spot to win the SEC regular season. The two teams are scheduled to play only once in the regular season.
