When the college football schedule was revealed for 2024, Week 8’s ESPN College GameDay location seemed destined for Austin, and they’re making good on that projection.

The exhilarating pregame show will broadcast on-site ahead of the Georgia Bulldogs traveling to take on the Texas Longhorns. It’s the first time they’ll meet as conference foes, and the game seems like it’ll be a tremendous contest.

“This one is going to be BIG,” College GameDay posted on X, revealing the location. “We’ll see you in Austin for Georgia-Texas.”

Moreover, the Bulldogs will represent the biggest test of the season for top-ranked Texas as new members of the SEC. Before we get to Week 8 though, both squads will have to get through Week 7 — Georgia hosts Mississippi State in Athens, and Texas takes on rival Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl.

Additionally, Texas and Georgia have only faced off five times in the long, storied history of both programs. With Texas holding a 4-1 advantage in the series following their 28-21 win over Georgia during the 2018 season in the Sugar Bowl.

Both programs have come a long way since that last meeting and will get used to facing off a lot more now that Texas has joined the SEC.

For example, Kirby Smart has since led the Bulldogs to two national championship wins in the last three seasons, while Steve Sarkisian led Texas to their first College Football Playoff appearance last season and the program’s best record since 2009.

Now, the anticipation will continue to build, as Texas and Georgia will be squaring off next weekend for the first time both as members of the SEC, and it’ll be a high-stakes matchup between two of the top teams in country. The winner will set themselves up nicely over the rest of the 2024 campaign, as well.
