ESPN announced College Gameday would be heading to Knoxville for Saturday’s top 10 matchup between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Tennessee Volunteers. However, on Monday, tweets with the announcement were deleted, with rumors beginning to swirl online. Thankfully, Kirk Herbstreit shut them down.

Herbstreit confirmed everyone in the College Gameday crew would be in attendance on Saturday. With such a fun atmosphere anticipated in Knoxville, Herbstreit said they’re excited to give the game the “love and hype it deserves.”

“Just wanted to let people know @CollegeGameDay is 1000% coming to Knoxville this weekend-we are fired up to come back to town,” Herbstreit said via Twitter. “Our ENTIRE crew can’t wait to get there and give this game the love and hype it deserves-see ya in Knoxville this weekend!”

Kirk Herbstreit explains reasoning behind deleted tweets

As to why the announcement tweets were taken down, Herbstreit was not fully aware of the answer. He did provide a guess though, saying there could have been a copyright problem with the music used in the video posted on social media.

“Not sure the details,” said Herbstreit. “Guessing a copyright issue with the music our social team used. But we’re coming and whatever was taken down wasn’t anything more than that. Sorry for any confusion.”

With the confirmation from Herbstreit, the crew will be heading to what should be the most anticipated Tennessee games in recent memories. There have been plenty of times when Alabama has come to Neyland Stadium under Nick Saban and taken care of business. However, this one somehow feels different for the Volunteers under head coach Josh Heupel.

Plenty of storylines will come from the game too, especially the quarterback battle. The hope in Tuscaloosa is that Bryce Young can return to the field, while Tennessee will want Hendon Hooker to continue to excellent season.

2006 was the last time the Vols smoked a cigar on the Third Saturday of October. Kirk Herbstreit and the College Gameday crew will be there to see if that trend changes.
