ESPN College GameDay announces South Carolina's Dawn Staley as Week 3 celebrity guest picker
ESPN College GameDay isn’t going far for this week’s celebrity guest picker for the South Carolina vs. LSU game. Gamecocks women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley has been selected as the guest picker, College GameDay announced.
Dawn Staley has built the South Carolina women’s basketball program into one of the best in the nation. The Gamecocks have won three national titles under Staley, including this past season when they went undefeated, beating Iowa for the title.
Staley posted a message through the ESPN College GameDay Twitter account after being announced as the guest picker.
“Hey, what’s up Gamecock fams,” Staley said. “I heard you. I saw you on social media asking me to be the guest picker on College GameDay. Well guess what, when you speak, people listen. So I want to thank you for choosing me to be the guest picker on College GameDay.

“I’ll be out there at Gamecock Park, 9 a.m. I need to see you out there, because we’re going to blow this thing out. We’re going to make sure that they know who we are, what we do. And make sure our football team feels you. We need this win. Come start it off at Gamecock Park, College GameDay. Let’s go, and let’s go Gamecocks.”
Dawn Staley makes sense as the celebrity guest picker as she is a basketball legend. As a player, she was a two-time National Player of the Year, the Most Outstanding Player in the 1991 NCAA Tournament, a six-time WNBA all-star and a three-time gold medalist.
