ESPN College GameDay does not have too many selections when it comes to conference championship weekend. Just a handful of games are on the schedule but a few of them are quite important. College Football Playoff lives are going to be at stake throughout the country.

Arguably none more important than the SEC Championship, taking place in Atlanta between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Georgia Bulldogs. While College GameDay itself has not announced they will be heading there, a pretty good source confirmed so via X on Saturday night.

Kirk Herbstreit, who is most likely heading back from after calling the FloridaFlorida State game, confirmed he, Rece Davis, Pat McAfee, Lee Corso, and Desmond Howard will be live in Atlanta next weekend to highlight the SEC Championship.

While we do not exactly know where the two will be ranked, Georgia entered the week at No. 1 while Alabama was a few spots behind at No. 8. Both teams were able to pull off in-state rivalry wins on Saturday night but did not look too particularly good on the field.

A miracle play from Jalen Milroe in the Iron Bowl, scoring the game-winning touchdown or 4th and Goal from the 31-yard line, was required from Alabama to beat Auburn. Georgia let Georgia Tech hang around for quite some time and was never really able to put them to bed until the very end.

Thankfully, neither of those games matters anymore. All attention will now be on one another for what could be just the latest classic duel between the two programs.

Alabama, Georgia meeting for first time since 2021 national championship

For quite a few years under Kirby Smart, the question was whether or not he could get over the Nick Saban hump. Between the national championship back in 2017 and then some duels in the SEC Championship — plus a regular season matchup in 2020 — Smart was not able to take down Alabama.

Well, Georgia was finally on top of the college football pyramid when they took down Alabama in Indianapolis. It’s since then launched Smart as they are now looking for a three-peat in national championships. The Bulldogs will even be favored heading into the matchup on Saturday.

Saban will be looking to steal back some of the momentum, even if his squad is not able to get into the College Football Playoff. Revenge will certainly be on Alabama’s mind.
