Week 7 of the college football season was one of the most exciting in a long time, with three AP Top-25 games between unbeaten teams. The most notable of those happened in Knoxville and saw Tennessee overcome a demon to beat Nick Saban and Alabama. Others are going to prove to have a major impact in the Big 12 and Big Ten East races. Through all of this, ESPN is continuing its practice of ranking unbeaten teams.

The three teams who lost to other unbeaten teams weren’t the only ones to go down, though. Three others lost too, making it six unbeaten teams who lost in Week 7. That includes all remaining Group of Five teams, with James Madison and Coastal Carolina biting the dust. Then, USC dropped a game at Utah, bringing the total of PAC-12 unbeaten teams down to one.

It is ESPN writer Bill Connelly who put these ratings together. These rankings use SP+ and FPI metrics, as well as looking at the odds SP+ gives each team for finishing the regular season unbeaten. The rankings

ESPN ranks the nine remaining unbeaten teams

Here are the nine unbeaten teams, from best to worst, according to ESPN:

  1. Ohio State
  2. Georgia
  3. Michigan
  4. Tennessee
  5. Clemson
  6. Ole Miss
  7. UCLA
  8. TCU
  9. Syracuse

Another unbeaten will lose in Week 8

At least one more unbeaten is going to lose in Week 8 because Syracuse and Clemson play each other. According to ESPN and Bill Connelly’s SP+ metrics, Clemson is a pretty clear favorite to win, with a better than 70% chance to do so.

UCLA also has a tough game at one-loss Oregon. ESPN’s College Gameday is going to be there for head coach Chip Kelly’s return to Oregon. TCU will also be facing a top-25 opponent in Kansas State. At some point, Ohio State-Michigan and Tennessee-Georgia are going to be played too, but we’ve got some time before that happens.

Other than Syracuse, the team with the lowest chance to win this week is UCLA, who is actually an underdog according to SP+ with only a 47% chance to win. Georgia and Michigan definitely won’t lose either, as they’re both on their bye week.
