ESPN ranks top 25 college football stadiums entering 2024

Sometimes, the atmosphere at a college football game can be more entertaining than the game itself. Thousands of people pouring into a stadium, all supporting a team, and hopefully making their Saturdays.

So what better to do than rank the top ones?

ESPN gathered a group of 14 people, asking them to rank the top 25 stadiums in college football. Points were assigned based on voting placement and the list was generated. While the SEC and Big Ten do dominate the list, there is variance further down.

1. Tiger Stadium, LSU Tigers

There might be nothing better in college football than a Saturday night in Death Valley. Nick Saban recently spoke about Jesse Jackson calling a game at Tiger Stadium a religious experience.

Good or bad, LSU fans are going to show up and support their team. Brian Kelly has taken advantage of the home crowd in recent years and hopes to continue for years to come.

2. Rose Bowl, UCLA Bruins

Sure, the Rose Bowl is the home of UCLA. But the game being played on Jan. 1 is why the Rose Bowl is considered a special atmosphere for college football.

No matter the setting — a regular Rose Bowl game or the College Football Playoff — it delivers on a yearly basis. The CFP will now be there every single season, a great theater for the sport’s highest level.

3. Michigan Stadium, Michigan Wolverines

Michigan Stadium is the largest stadium in college football, holding over 107,000 people. Most of them are wearing maize and blue, cheering on the current reigning national champions.

Some special atmospheres have been created throughout its time but especially in recent years. Beating Ohio State twice will surely top the list, breaking a streak Michigan fans have quickly forgotten about.

4. Notre Dame Stadium, Notre Dame Fighting Irish

There is something special about Notre Dame home games. Not just because of the teams who travel to South Bend but because so much history and tradition come to life when 77,000 people walk through the turnstiles.

And then there is Touchdown Jesus, overlooking every snap of every game at Notre Dame Stadium. A great venue, hosting arguably college football’s most famous program.

5. Beaver Stadium, Penn State Nittany Lions

One event immediately comes to mind when thinking about Penn State home games. Everybody wants to experience a White Out one day, generating deafening noises for 60 minutes.

Michigan calling a timeout before the game’s first play has to be one of the stadium’s most memorable moments. Along with the history of the Penn State program, Beaver Stadium is not just a Big Ten staple but one of the best in the country.

6. Husky Stadium, Washington Huskies

One argument could be made in favor of Husky Stadium — and it’s a good one. Nobody in college football is going to turn down the opportunity to tailgate on a boat before joining 70,000 people to watch Washington play.

It’s become quite an advantage for the Huskies as well. Under Kalen DeBoer, Washington was undefeated at home, going 14-0.

7. Ohio Stadium, Ohio State Buckeyes

Rarely are teams able to enter Ohio Stadium and leave without a loss. One of the best home-field advantages in college football is due to the team’s success and the energy fans bring.

Nicknamed “The Horseshoes” great traditions take place on Saturdays. Most notable is dotting the I with a tuba, indicating kickoff in Columbus is near.

8. Camp Randall, Wisconsin Badgers

When Wisconsin is rolling, their home atmosphere arguably cannot be beat. Between having some fun outside the stadium beforehand and Jumping Around in the fourth quarter, people in Madison know how to enjoy a college football game.

There is plenty of history surrounding the stadium as well, dating back to the Civil War. Now, the Badgers are the main purpose, getting into ESPN’s top 10.

9. Bryant-Denny Stadium, Alabama Crimson Tide

Over 100,000 Alabama fans get into Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturdays, singing Sweet Home Alabama or Dixieland Delight at the top of their lungs. Too many classic moments to count have occurred in Tuscaloosa, with most going in favor of the Crimson Tide.

10. Neyland Stadium, Tennessee Volunteers

The Tennessee fan base might be the most passionate in the SEC, supporting the Vols through thick and thin. Josh Heupel has brought excitement into the program and made Neyland Stadium that much more intimidating.

Checkering the stadium is popular, with fans matching the famous endzones. Running through the “T” is another fan favorite as the team takes the field.
