College football returns on Saturday, August 28th. With just two weeks remaining until the beginning of the season, ESPN has released a new college football anthem in preparation of the upcoming season. After COVID had ramifications over the college football landscape last year, an expected return to some form of normalcy is a welcome sight for this season. The return to full stadiums and game day atmospheres appears to be returning, and that is a welcome sight for everyone involved.

“New season. New anthem. THE HYPE IS REAL,” ESPN tweeted.

USA Today Sports coaches poll was just released

Earlier in the week, USA Today released its initial top 25 coaches poll of the 2021 college football season. Alabama sits ranked at the top spot after a perfect 13-0 2020 season. Clemson is second despite losing star quarterback Trevor Lawrence to the NFL. Oklahoma, Ohio State and Georgia rounded out the top five.

Clemson and Georgia will face off during week one, so the top five will likely see some shakeups early in the season. Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Iowa State, North Carolina and Cincinnati round out the top ten of the poll. The SEC had six teams ranked in the top 25, and the Big Ten had five.

A total of 65 coaches from the American Football Coaches Association vote in the poll. Their membership includes coaches from each of the 10 top conferences plus independents.

The latest New Year’s Six college football bowl projections

CBS Sports recently released a projection for the New Year’s Six bowl matchups. They projected that Clemson would face off against Oklahoma in the first College Football Playoff semifinal. Alabama and Georgia face off in the second CFP semifinal.

Iowa State and Texas A&M were tabbed as the two teams in the Sugar Bowl. Oregon and Ohio State face off in the Rose Bowl. The Peach Bowl could include Florida and Notre Dame. They project the Fiesta Bowl as Cincinnati against North Carolina.

ESPN appears to be just as excited as everyone else about a return to a normal college football season.
