ESPN releases updated BPI Top 25 rankings leading into Selection Sunday

Selection Sunday has finally arrived, and we will know the full NCAA Tournament field for March Madness by the end of the day. But first, ESPN has released udpated BPI Top 25 rankings that reflect the wild week it was across the various conference tournaments.

The tournament’s final five automatic bids will be handed out on Sunday, with various conference championship games getting ready to tip off. Princeton and Yale will battle for the Ivy League crown at 12 p.m. ET, while Alabama and Texas A&M fight for the SEC crown and VCU plays Dayton for the Atlantic 10 title at 1 p.m. ET. Memphis and Houston battle for the AAC championship at 3:15 p.m. ET, and Penn State takes on Purdue at 3:30 p.m. ET in the Big Ten.

Many teams in action today are already safely in the projected NCAA Tournament field, but today’s results could still have major impacts. In addition to some teams waiting to find out if their name will be called later tonight, others are still trying to solidify their seeds.

Virginia is the lone team to join this week’s BPI Top 25 rankings, as the Cavaliers came in and took the spot from Rutgers, who dropped three spots from No. 23. In addition to the Scarlet Knights, Auburn, TCU, Kansas State and Illinois sit just on the cusp of cracking ESPN’s rankings.
