Week 6 has come and gone, and another week of college football is in the books. The weekend saw plenty of exciting action, featuring many tight games and a few big-time upsets. Following Saturday’s slate of games, ESPN has released updated FPI Top 25 rankings with some surprising and major movement throughout.

An underlying theme throughout much of the weekend ended up being the health of several star quarterbacks across the country. Most notably, Alabama was without star signal-caller Bryce Young, with Jalen Milroe leading the charge against Texas A&M. The Crimson Tide came away with a close 24-20 victory, though the Aggies still found themselves back in ESPN’s FPI Top 25 rankings after the loss.

Elsewhere, Kentucky was without Will Levis against South Carolina. The Wildcats weren’t as fortunate as Alabama, though, losing their second consecutive game at the hands of the Gamecocks. Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels left with an upper-body injury in the Jayhawks’ loss to TCU, while NC State played a lot of Saturday’s game against Florida State without Devin Leary after he suffered an injury. The Wolfpack escaped with a narrow victory over the Seminoles.

There were other unfortunate injury updates for quarterbacks across the nation, but it wasn’t all bad. Texas got Quinn Ewers back just in time for the Red River Showdown against Oklahoma, and the Longhorns dominated the Sooners, winning 49-0.

Ultimately, the AP Top 25 teams entering the weekend went 17-6 in Week 6. Three of those six losses came to unranked opponents, resulting in some big shifts in ESPN’s FPI Top 25 rankings after some of the crazy results across college football.

The Aggies lost to Alabama, but still surged up in the rankings following a loss that came down to the final play with a goal line stand needed from the Crimson Tide. UCF and Purdue each rose seven spots to join the top 25, while Wake Forest jumped up nine spots to enter. Kansas State and NC State swapped spots at No. 25 and No. 26, with the Wildcats entering the rankings and the Wolfpack exiting.

Other teams to fall out of ESPN’s FPI Top 25 rankings were Cincinnati (fell nine spots), Washington (fell eight spots), Oklahoma (fell 15 spots) and Kentucky (fell 12 spots).

NC State, Wisconsin, Florida State, Cincinnati, UCLA, Washington and Syracuse found themselves just missing out on the ESPN’s FPI Top 25 after college football’s Week 6.
