ESPN updates FPI Top 25 rankings following action-packed Week 2
Week 2 is officially in the books, and this college football season is already off to a fun start. On Saturday, there were plenty of high profile matchups with some exciting finishes throughout the day. After all of the Week 2 action, ESPN has updated its FPI Top 25 rankings.
ESPN’s FPI Top 25 rankings measures the true strengths of teams on a net points scale. At the top of this week’s rankings are some familiar faces, but after some surprising results there are major changes throughout the rest of the list.
There are no new teams inside the top five, although Texas rose one spot to reach No. 6 and Tennessee rose three spots to come in at No. 7. USC, Mississippi State, and Utah also saw big jumps to join and round out the rest of the top ten.
Here is a full look at the post-Week 2 ESPN FPI rankings, which differ greatly from the rankings following Week 1.

Five new teams joined ESPN’s FPI Top 25 rankings following Week 2. Cincinnati jumped up 12 spots and comes in at No. 19 after picking up their first win of the year. Arkansas rose five spots to come in at No. 21. Minnesota rose ten spots to No. 23, BYU rose four spots to No. 24, and Washington leaped 15 spots to round out the top 25.
There were some big fallers in this week’s FPI rankings too, with multiple teams falling out. Texas A&M dropped eight spots, coming in at No. 29. Pitt fell six spots to No. 31, too, while Wisconsin dropped 17 spots to No. 35 and Florida dropped 13 spots to No. 37. SMU also fell 19 spots, coming in at No. 42.
Overall, last week’s officially ranked Top 25 teams went 18-7 in Week 2. Of the seven losses from ranked teams, though, three came against other teams that were ranked inside the AP Top 25. Baylor lost late on Saturday night in double overtime against BYU, and Houston also went to overtime for the second consecutive week, falling 33-30 to Texas Tech. Kentucky also pulled off a big victory against Florida.
