SF Ethan Mgbako breaks down the latest of his recruitment
Ethan Mgbako had a big summer with the NY Rens program on Nike’s E16 Circuit. The 6-foot-6 wing averaged 18.4 points and 4.3 rebounds. He then transferred to Mouth of Wilson (VA) Oak Hill Academy to play his junior season.
“I can score on any level, whether I’m at the basket, a post-fade, or threes especially,” Mgbako told On3. “My game hasn’t really changed I don’t think. But I’ve gotten my body right, I used to be a chubby boy, but I got fit and now I’m doing what I should have been all along. I’m getting my shots off easier and playing like I’m a big guard. I watch a lot of my brother for sure. And I watch a lot of Dylan Harper, I think we got the same frame.”
Mgbako is the younger brother of former McDonald’s All-American and Indiana sophomore Mackenzie Mgbako.
“My brother has been great,” Mgbako said. “He’s helped me with my whole game, really. I’m picking up little things from him and I’ve been able to experience things other kids my age haven’t really because of all the accolades he got. And I’ve mainly seen his work ethic, I really think my brother works harder than anyone else that I’ve seen. Once I get that into my every day, then I think I’ll be unstoppable.”
On3 caught up with Ethan Mgbako after a recent live viewing to discuss the latest in his recruitment.
Mgbako talks offers
“I added offers from LSU, Mississippi State, Creighton, and Florida State,” Mgbako said.
CREIGHTON: “I like their playing style. I like how they are structured but I can also play freely within their flow.”
FLORIDA STATE: “They tell me how much they like my game and their message to me is to keep on working. I like how Coach (Leonard) Hamilton develops his players, especially the ones like me.”

LSU: “I’ve been talking to their whole coaching staff, a lot. I like what they’re talking about with how they see me fitting in with what they’re doing. I also like the players that they are bringing in.”
MISSISSIPPI STATE: “They like how hard I play and they like my game. They’re a physical team, and they play fast and through their wings on offense. A lot of what they do is like how we play at Oak Hill right now.”
In Ethan Mgbako’s words
“I think all the schools recruiting me fit my playing style,” Mgbako said. “That is something I am going to be looking at. I’m going to look at how they are looking to use me with what they do and how they can develop me to get me to the highest level.
“I wanted to come to Oak Hill to play against the best and keep getting better. And I wanted people to know who Ethan Mgbako is so I could step out of the shell of my brother.”
